What did I learn?
- don't check your bag if you can avoid it
- put a tag with your name and phone number on your bag
- stick a sheet of paper with your destination address inside
- Fedex has lost its mojo but there are still plenty of competent people in this world

Epilogue: SG agent calls me on Day 33 saying that they spoke to Fedex customer service and I should be able to go pick up the bag with my ID. I say "Didn't they tell you it's already been picked up?" Nope. And this info is right there if you just look up the tracking number

Day 29: I try calling the warehouse again, and luckily I get a very nice human. My bag is back on its way from the central warehouse. It's the home stretch!

I call and email SG with this info. I have to leave a voicemail because no one picks up the phone. I call them everyday for 4 days, and keep getting voicemail

Day 26: I get a call from Fedex customer service. They have a possible match, but they need the shipper to authorize them to ship it to me ??!! I tell them I can identify the bag, but no dice

I call the warehouse multiple times on the next working day, Day 25. I keep getting voicemail

Unfortunately, they have already shipped the bag to their central warehouse where all lost items go to. Not to worry, they will ask for it to be sent back. I go home full of hope. It's Day 22

I speak to a very nice competent warehouse worker over the phone, while standing outside. Because I called with a tracking number, they look up visuals of that tracking number, find visuals of my bag (which is bright red) in their warehouse and correlate the two

Crucially, Fedex has told Singapore airlines the location of the last scan. SG agent suggests that I go to the warehouse and see if I can identify the bag. I drive 15 miles to the warehouse. Of course they won't let me enter and look aroundπ

Singapore airlines files a claim with Fedex. It takes several days for them to get back to me with an update. Hilariously, Fedex wants a picture of my front door as proof that the bag was never delivered. It is now Day 21

Day 13: I inform Singapore Airlines at this point and ask for a Lost baggage claim form. They tell me that they will contact Fedex first. Fun fact: the Montreal convention determines how much compensation you are entitled to. It works out to approximately 1700 USD

Day 11: I keep checking tracking all weekend. No change. On Monday I file a support ticket with Fedex. They close it within 24 hours. "After making every effort, we were unable to locate your package". Seriously?

The bag is supposed to be delivered at my home on Day 8. Tracking info shows it moving, arriving at a local warehouse, and then out for delivery. I'm eagerly waiting for it. End of the day, no bag. And tracking suddenly changes to "Waiting for update"

Fedex did not pick it up on that day. Nor the next day. They finally picked it up a day later. Elapsed time since I landed without the bag: 6 days

As promised the bag arrived 2 days later on a plane. The baggage agent called me, confirmed the addressed and sent me pictures of the bag with a Fedex tracking label. Fedex was scheduled to pick it up the next working day

The agent there was very competent, she had a form filled out for me to sign, and assured me that the bag would arrive in 48 hours and when it did, they would ship it to me at home via Fedex

My bag never made it onto the flight from Singapore, along with 30-odd other bags. The airline was on it, and I had an email and text message waiting when I got off the plane, so I went straight to the baggage counter instead of waiting around the luggage belt

It took 32 days for my checked baggage to arrive via Fedex on my most recent trip with SingaporeAir but on the bright side, it wasn't permanently lost
