Using Wright's neighbourhood area theory, she estimates the true realised dispersal of corals using genetic data. Coral connectivity is crucial for est pop resilience and resp. to stressors!

@annacresswell.bsky.social Presented an incredible and detailed view of her coral modelling and outputs from her model called CScape at #ICCB2025 modelling fine-scale within-reef area responses to future climate projections for 6 different growth forms, all informed by fine-scale reef photogrammetry

Preprint finally out! I show that eco-evo feedback can drive a tipping point where genetic drift overwhelms adaptation. This can result in a contraction of a species' range border or range fragmentation. Fragmentation is abrupt and arises readily under rapid temporal change. doi.org/10.1101/2025...

Terrible news today:

This year, one-third of coral cover has been destroyed in two northern sections of the Great Barrier reef due to anthropogenic heating.

Results for the southern sections (which were even hotter) have not been officially released.

A huge lab effort! Using reproducible criteria we found that 68% of #coral studies had cryptic taxa and that (when tested) these species have permeable species boundaries (i.e.,
#hybridisation). We describe the implications of cryptic taxa and hybridisation for #conservation #restoration in detail!
