Honestly I don't care if we need 15% gas on the back end. Yeah, methane etc would suck. But compared to our current track, getting to 85% renewables with storage would be a huge win. Let's aim for that and celebrate the heck out of it. I'll buy everyone a beer. Amortized over 30 years of course.

Post-Helene, I want solar+storage microgrids at every emergency services location in Appalachia. Most especially volunteer fire departments like my own Stewart Simmons VFD (where I volunteer). That's my new goal in life.

I think they still use ZELFR. Duke loves ZELFR. Especially of the SMR variety.

IPA's are for after reading an IRP. PBR's are good for watching expert testimony on the IRP when you still need to be able to pay attention.

I think there's a typo above. 8,760 GWh = 8,760,000 MWh (not kWH). The rest is correct (8.76 million MWh) but just FYI.

So many folks at NREL, LBL, etc should be on this list.

So energy use for two out of the four end use sectors depicted, and two of the three sectors most directly reliant on the grid, do in fact get half/most of their energy from electricity. πŸ”ŒπŸ’‘

Not an inaccurate statement but you have to add renewable energy (direct electricity that doesn't pass through the "electric sector"). When you do, and separate the results into end use categories, you get 50% of residential, 53% commercial, 22% industrial and 7% of transportation.
