The Americans aghast at this suggestion should try learning more about who Fidel actually was instead of believing the propaganda they were fed about him by a government that worked to topple him for decades was all true.

If only we have more leaders like Fidel.

This is why Israel refuses to allow the international press access to Gaza.
Because images like this make it impossible to deny that this is genocide.

I made an anti-AI post on LinkedIn and the people angry or defensive all have Visionary or Founder as their listed role, and everyone agreeing with me has a real job. Amazing how that is.

western countries are talking about whether to recognize a palestinian state, while israel keeps slaughtering dozens of palestinians each and every day

Tesla is being hit with $329m in damages for a crash in which the human driver says he knew Autopilot wasn't self-driving. This is super important, because it shows that Autopilot's design and marketing can induce inattention even when drivers consciously know they are supposed to pay attention.

Recognition of Palestinian statehood is not enough when it comes to Gaza The UK and Europe must take action, not stick with mere symbolic gestures

β€œIsrael is the occupying power, and the Palestinians are an occupied people. Recognition of their right to self-determination is not a concession to be negotiated, but a legal obligation whose urgency has only deepened in light of the evolving situation on the ground.”

One explanation for the U.S. economy’s ongoing strength is that spending on AI infrastructure *is so big it’s acting as a sort of private-sector stimulus program.*

The AI infrastructure build-out is so gigantic that in the past 6 months, it contributed more to the growth of the U.S. economy than /all of consumer spending/

The 'magnificent 7' spent more than $100 billion on data centers and the like in the past three months *alone*

Great to have @jacobsilverman.com back on the show! We start by discussing how influential tech figures can get away with open racism and Islamophobia, then pivot to talk about the scandalous nature of Trump’s capture by the crypto industry.

Curating your own set of news sources through an RSS reader is the best way to do it. Highly recommend checking out Molly’s guide and making your own. I use Inoreader for mine.

i was planning to leave substack again early next year to align with something else, but i’m looking at whether i can easily speed that up (given my capacity is low because i’m writing a book)

if people using substack to host their newsletters have a problem with people cancelling because they’re using substack β€” knowing well the company’s politics and its enabling of nazis β€” then they can move to a different platform

I honestly think you have a mix of media and social media for this. Sensationalism and fear work to grab attention.

Local media knows crime stories are low effort, but constantly reporting on crime distorts people’s view of their communities. And the algorithms only amplify that problem.

Again, it’s still not nearly enough, doesn’t go far enough, and doesn’t take the necessary action against Israel for its breaches of international law, apartheid system, and genocide against Palestinians. But it’s a belated step in the right direction, that will hopefully be more like a domino.

I don’t have much praise for Carney these days, but I think his statement was far better than Keir Starmer’s.

Starmer presented it as a punishment to Israel. Carney presented it as the necessary move to get a two-state solution back on track, paired with funds to help the PA improve its governance.

31.07.2025 03:51 β€” πŸ‘ 65    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 1

I still think a two-state solution, and the way Western countries are presenting it, likely still won’t work in practice, but it’s still an important step forward.

It’s unacceptable it took mass slaughter for almost two years to get here. But I hope this is finally a sign Israel has become a pariah

Mark Carney’s statement on planning to recognize a Palestinian state was the furthest thing from perfect.

But I honestly never thought I’d hear a Canadian prime minister outline and acknowledge the many ways the Israeli government is active hampering a two-state solution.

after nearly two years of horrendous slaughter in gaza, it finally feels like the western political consensus in support of israel regardless of its actions may be breaking. it’s far too late for so many palestinians, but i deeply hope it’s finally happening.

Gina once paid to put a terrible poem on a chunk of iron.

β€œSome envious unthinking people have been conned
To think properity is created by waving a magic wand
Through such unfortunate ignorance, too much abuse is hurled
Against miners, workers and related industries who strive to build the world”
