I honestly think you have a mix of media and social media for this. Sensationalism and fear work to grab attention.

Local media knows crime stories are low effort, but constantly reporting on crime distorts people’s view of their communities. And the algorithms only amplify that problem.

Again, it’s still not nearly enough, doesn’t go far enough, and doesn’t take the necessary action against Israel for its breaches of international law, apartheid system, and genocide against Palestinians. But it’s a belated step in the right direction, that will hopefully be more like a domino.

I don’t have much praise for Carney these days, but I think his statement was far better than Keir Starmer’s.

Starmer presented it as a punishment to Israel. Carney presented it as the necessary move to get a two-state solution back on track, paired with funds to help the PA improve its governance.

I still think a two-state solution, and the way Western countries are presenting it, likely still won’t work in practice, but it’s still an important step forward.

It’s unacceptable it took mass slaughter for almost two years to get here. But I hope this is finally a sign Israel has become a pariah

Mark Carney’s statement on planning to recognize a Palestinian state was the furthest thing from perfect.

But I honestly never thought I’d hear a Canadian prime minister outline and acknowledge the many ways the Israeli government is active hampering a two-state solution.

after nearly two years of horrendous slaughter in gaza, it finally feels like the western political consensus in support of israel regardless of its actions may be breaking. it’s far too late for so many palestinians, but i deeply hope it’s finally happening.
