Well this almost ended in disaster. Thankfully they make extensions!
Old one was corroded on one side and a b*tch to get out.

Ok I know there's only been one group so far but... bedazzled scream masks?!
They win.
I'm going to "one more piece won't hurt" this bowl of candy into oblivion.
I opened the bags too soon.
I am typically not a fan of horror or thriller movies. I don't want to sit down on my couch and be stressed out or give an anxiety.
But I watched A House of Dynamite, which was tagged as a thriller, and liked it.
It was suspenseful, but to me it was watching ops unfold with emotional impact.
Part cat. Climbed on the back of the couch to get in my face.

He was also amazed at how good the camera was on a 00's-era flip phone a friend gave him.
Well that sounds fun!
The jetboats are a good time (in the summer). There's one that goes downriver to the mouth of the Willamette, and another you can take upriver to OC.
They do spins and splashes, but the driver/guide also gives you some PDX history and fun facts along the way.
A lot of people (myself included for a long time) don't really get how much Willamette River and "port" in "Portland" is north of the Fremont and St. John's bridges. It's pretty wild.
The most fun way to see it is by doing the jetboat rides that take off by OMSI.
My last firm had a mandatory wrap-up discussion for all returns. I made it optional in my season on my own, and 62.1% took me up on it.
I went from 82 wrap-up meetings in 2023 to 17 in 2025. Traded 15-30 minute meetings for 3-6 minute Looms.

Ran numbers on deliveries and Loom views for this year:
71.8% watched their Loom video (up 2.5% from PY).
10.1% scheduled wrap-up meetings (3.2% from PY, but there were a couple of big projects for a new client that account for 1.8% of the increase).

21.10.2025 19:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It seems to be impacting pretty much everything. TaxDome and UltraTax (even on local installs due to authenticator) are down as well.

20.10.2025 15:29 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0So what happens to this society as the social and scientific systems get undermined and start breaking down and a human-eating fungi gets off its leash?
DM me for info on where to send future royalty checks. :-P
The vaccine changes living human biological systems to be inedible by the fungi. It stops working when the body dies. Insert more proper or hand wavy science.
But then a few generations into society, people start to rebel. You can't FORCE a vaccine on everyone.
So we could use the fungi food and materials production system to also dispose/recycle bodies in a space-dwelling society. It's a good plan!
Except spores go everywhere and we don't want them eating the humans that are still alive.
So we have a vaccine!
Plot idea I came up with at Orycon, documenting for future royalties:
Fungi as a solution to space travel is complicated, because any sufficiently large volume requires an even larger volume of food source.
Conveniently, some fungi will eat human organic matter!

We shouldn't be overworked for extended deadlines. There has been MONTHS, nearly a year, to get stuff done.
Calling it "tax season" frames the work under the same pressure and expectations as Jan-Apr.
Saving clients from their irrresponsibility teaches them nothing and only buys us stress.
Today is the extended filing deadline for individual returns.
I'm a firm believer that "tax season" ends on April 15.
Extension season should have a lot more management of workloads, client expectations, and client accountability.

Hoping that some hands-on labor and opportunity to surround myself with animals will be a good periodic lift to the spirits.
Gotta get in 10 hours before you're allowed to do the dog walking though.

Thinking about the people eating up my time in September, and I'm not very worried about upsetting any of them.
#TaxBS, I think next year I'll put a hard stop on extended returns well ahead of 9/15 & 10/15 deadlines.*
Get it done over the summer, or you're back-burnered. Make fall planning focused.
I feel like I'm slipping on my ability to deliver quality proactive planning ahead of Q3 and into YE.
