Popping up just for a brief little "Lol. Lmao, even."
28.07.2025 16:08 β π 38 π 10 π¬ 0 π 0Now that I've rid myself of this week's "toxins":
I fucking *love* 'StarVaders.'
store.steampowered.com/app/2097570/...
So, I'd say I'm a roguelike deckbuilder addict of sorts. And this? Is that. It's just *THAT.*
It's nice to actually play and savor games again! π
I'm owed ONE more shot: Anyone who has the audacity to say/imply that a group of people who were consistently vilified for 10 months with zero grace/understanding/empathy knowing how awful the games journalism space is deserved it or the rage campaign was justified?
*Entirely* out of their mind. π
Ana's the hard-hitting journalist with all the proper articulation points regarding this whole disaster.
But I wanna say: thank you. Each and every person who's using their voice to remedy a heartbreaking injustice.
Keep the pressure on. π€πΏ
I'll never stop fighting for video games. A medium that's given me so much when I had nothing.
And, hey. Who said it was the end of the road for boosting excellent indie games? π
But Waypoint 2.0 stood for something.
And for all the miscalculations and mistakes I made? You won't take that away from me. From us. Ever.
And let's be clear: I DO NOT want your pity. Your sympathy. I'm good! In these 10 months, it wasn't all for nothing.
We supported indie devs like nobody's goddamn business.
We fought the games journalism pitfalls as best as we could.
And it just ain't work out. And that's fine!
Be a content creator. Assemble a group of friends and *try.* If you want to give games the respect they deserve -- and the developers who unnecessarily suffer as a result?
Do. Your. Own. Thing. Far away from "games journalism." Please.
Because there are two "sects" of games journalism.
1. The predatory companies with all the money who will never truly understand *WHY* video games resonate with people.
2. Personalities who will undercut you, judge you, berate you, and everyone will defer to their "authority" in the space.
I hope aspiring games journalists see and, most importantly, *understand* the "inevitability" of the death of "Waypoint 2.0."
If you love and care about this beautiful, tortured medium and you don't have a preexisting "reputation"?
Don't. Just don't.
...You know, at the end of the whirlwind of emotions I've felt since Sunday, all I feel is sad now.
My team was endlessly criticized and woefully utilized. They fought, and fought, and fucking fought.
To be talked down to. To be discredited. To be disgraced.
Oh, and in case you were plotting on the queen's downfall?
...Sorry! π
Ana said it best: this world doesn't have to be a hopeless, broken hellscape.
Never stop fighting the *real* enemies.
Reminder: if you want to stop companies from making stupid decisions (or reverse actively malignant ones), organize and go for their pockets. π
You attack/threaten that bottom line enough? They'll fold!
OH, if y'all can, though, show the rest of the gang some love! At the end of the day, this is family. Treat 'em right in this transitional stage of their careers. π
23.07.2025 16:31 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Honestly, I'm good for now, y'all. I've been fortunate (and lucky) to make it this far on my own two feet -- despite some blunders -- and I'm gonna try and rock with that for now. π
...If I'm still unemployed six months later, we can reconvene. π
When you say, "Yeah, Ana's articles weren't editorially sound," people are going to nod and just assume you're correct without looking into it themselves.
Then, that information spreads around the internet. Suddenly, Ana's "incompetent," and that could follow her for the rest of her career.
Like, y'all are gonna have to provide step-by-step receipts on that one. A blanket statement of how "backwards" her articles were is insufficient with her reputation on the line.
23.07.2025 09:42 β π 61 π 7 π¬ 1 π 0Ana's been doing this for YEARS, man! And, like she highlights, all she was doing was aggregating news and providing context and receipts when necessary!
Person/organization says thing. Ana links to thing. Explains thing. Further contextualizes thing with many more links.
One last thing: people saying I was "crashing out" for being right about capitalism is CRAZY.
...Yes, I was under a lot of stress and lashed out a bit. But to this day, I'll stand by those posts. The boy was spittin'. π
I'm just saying, look into the "scabs" before dunking on them next time. π€·πΎββοΈ
ALL THAT BEING SAID... we're cool! Water under the bridge and all that! We can focus our energies on the proper places now!
23.07.2025 03:02 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Bro, like, someone equated us to being no better than NAZI SYMPATHIZERS.
...Are you okay??? At worst, this is a naive games journalism website! Relax!
I'm not saying we did everything 100% right; and I'll happily own my fuck-ups!
But that grace has to go both ways! Some folks were rabidly harsh, that's all!
...Unfortunately, I feel like the instant "identities" are brought up, it's just going to muddy up the discourse.
That's all I'll say about that for now!
Yeeaah, I can also confirm that because we were "Easy to hit," I do feel like many people assumed I was some moustache-twirling corporate villain.
People created whole narratives where they assumed I tossed Ana to the wolves and never supported her.
Like, Ana *knows her shit.* She WAS our hard-hitting journalism beat, and I trusted her. Breeziest edits in the world!
Now, unfortunately, there isn't much room but for *so much* "mentoring" when you're churning out content, ya know?
To defend Ana: I *do* think there's something to be said for cliques in games journalism regarding certain critiques. It explains, honestly, the *intensity* from some pockets of social media who kicked us at our lowest.
