Mr. Khan, aged 37, is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Toronto . His doctoral research initially focused on the political–economic systems of South Asia and later evolved to examine increasing human rights abuses and global liberal apathy. Mr. Khan travelled to Pakistan on December 18 to conduct academic field research. During his visit, he met with academics, human rights lawyers, activists, and individuals who have reportedly experienced human rights violations. According to available information, he was abducted at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Thursday morning. There are serious concerns that he may currently be held in military custody.

Given that Mr. Khan is a Canadian citizen, I respectfully urge the Government of Canada to take immediate diplomatic and consular steps to ascertain his whereabouts, ensure his safety and well-being, secure access to legal representation, and work toward his prompt and lawful release.
