A cat who loves water & never gets to enjoy it. He/him. Marine electrician, photographer, FCL ops director, and lover of technology and adventures.

10.11.2025 23:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0visited the Museum of Science this afternoon, unknowingly on the opening day of their brand new bathroom facilities, which have got to be the best public bathroom Iβve ever seen. Completely gender neutral, full rooms for each toilet, free feminine products, and hand dryer or paper towels. Amazing!

Yep and this is an actual proper heat pump too, not just an air conditioner with βsupplemental heatβ which is a fancy term for a 1500w resistive heating elementβ¦ thereβs a lot of those on the market.
22.10.2025 19:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i do wish companies would realize itβs not a good idea to put all their eggs in one basket - first crowdstrike last year and now this
21.10.2025 12:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0met this adorable irish wolfhound who i gave head pets who then proceeded to sit down, then lay down, and eventually roll over and want belly rubs, then after that kept following me around for a bit while the owner talked to one of my friends. what a good girl :3
21.10.2025 10:43 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@techconnectify.bsky.social this is right up your alley and might be worth a video. This is a GE AWGP08WWF and this is one of the VERY few window heat pumps just starting to enter the market, intending to be an affordable and easy to install alternative to mini splits, esp for apartment dwellers.
21.10.2025 04:09 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 1Oh and for those wondering, near-future project is to build a small lean-to to keep this from being buried in snow as normally you don't mount one this low to the ground.
19.10.2025 05:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Why would I install an air conditioner in a basement window in late October? This is no ordinary air conditioner as it actually is also a heat pump, and I am very excited to be able to heat my basement computer room way more efficiently than the resistive heat I used for years...
19.10.2025 05:21 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0yeah, Apple does not have nearly as much of a history of forcing something on you and then telling you to deal with it. They still believe in choice. itβs there if you want it, you can shut it off if you donβt want it.
16.10.2025 16:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I jumped ship in March and bought a Mac, and Iβm not going back unless Apple does this shit as well

βi forgot what the question wasβ

JCO is sooooooo much fun to deal with when youβre the fire alarm techβ¦β¦ ask me how i know
15.10.2025 10:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Heh thanks, it's how I save some height in that stereo cabinet, though you have to be careful with a playing record not to make it skip. I usually load, slide in, then hit the auto start but some records don't have the "leader" groove cut so I can't do that with those.
08.10.2025 03:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Got some new vinyl today from the amazing @gojiimusic.bsky.social :3
This album is amazing, one of my favorites.
Yeah, that makes sense. Social statuses are something our brains arenβt wired to do so itβs another way we have to adapt to interfacing with NT individuals.
06.10.2025 17:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0On the other hand iβve had many NT people get bent out of shape when I decline an invitation, so itβs like what the hell peopleβ¦..
06.10.2025 16:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0But also yes when you think youβve fucked up and have no idea how and the other person wonβt tell you, itβs VERY stressful for us.
They wonβt tell you because again afraid of hurting feelings but itβs the complete opposite for autistic people.
Iβve noticed NT people prefer to not outright decline out of fear of hurting feelings and instead make excuses or give the runaround.
Iβd prefer if theyβd just decline because in my logic driven mind itβs a response to a boolean variable. Yes or no. Donβt give me maybe when itβs really no.
*hugs* itβs often hard for us to tell when itβs happening and often even harder to bail out before it gets worse.
i know how you feel. *hugs again*
yeah, a lot of us can spot it, but Iβve seen a lot of cases where they donβt realize whatβs happening until itβs too late.
And also, yes, Iβve experienced the same thing before with ghosting like that.
Iβve seen many cases of autistic people meeting someone who wants to be their friend, but they donβt realize that person wants to take advantage of them somehow, and then after that person has used them, they get thrown out like yesterdayβs news. .. this practice is so disrespectful. Ugh
06.10.2025 15:58 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0And lastly some misc stuff:
Leich PBX, MIT "RotoStrowBar" which was a weird little switch built by a group of MIT students using rotary, step by step, and crossbar selectors, another SxS PBX from kennebec pulp & paper, a 555 switchboard, and a very old flag drop switchboard from Fort Kent, ME.
In storage they have a mostly complete SxS central office from the town of Clinton, ME, an Ericsson AGF500, and many other future exhibits that they sadly don't have space for yet.

02.10.2025 02:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah several others! Going to be a few replies to this due to bluesky post lengths but...
3A Crossbar, one of 2 left in the world. The other belongs to Phil but it's going to become part of Connection Museum's denver location.
WE / AE SxS PBX, salvaged from the Sumner Tunnel Authority in Boston
Heard these sounds this past weekend at Maine's Telephone Museum, the only other place in the US with a working #5 crossbar. Remarkable machine, glad that 2 of them got preserved.
02.10.2025 02:29 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Weird electrical device that feels rather out of place, but...
American influence on Saudi Arabia led to them adopting US electrical standards. At one point they decided to align with the rest of Europe and chose British plugs. These were created to allow easy retrofits. Made by Leviton.
Article about how consumers donβt want AI says:
βpeople donβt want a βsmartβ appliance; they just want one that works. Does it toast the bread? Good. We did not need an AI to maximize our toast potential.β
There was only one truly smart toaster ever made and itβs from 1949.
