The Psychological Impact of Digital Isolation: How AI-Driven Social Interactions Shape Human Behavior and Mental Well-Being Felix Eling 3697-3705 Apr 30, 2025 Education The Psychological Impact of Digital Isolation: How AI-Driven Social Interactions Shape Human Behavior and Mental Well-Being Felix Eling Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy, Gulu College of Health Sciences, Gulu City, Northern Uganda DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.47772/IJRISS.2025.90400265 Received: 13 March 2025; Revised: 22 March 2025; Accepted: 25 March 2025; Published: 30 April 2025 ABSTRACT The increasing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in social interactions has transformed how humans experience companionship, communication, and mental well-being. This review examines the psychological impact of AI-driven social interactions, focusing on virtual assistants, AI chatbots, and digital companions. It explores the benefits, risks, and ethical concerns associated with AI companionship. A systematic review methodology was employed, detailing inclusion criteria, databases searched, and analysis techniques. Findings suggest that while AI can offer emotional relief and support, over-reliance may disrupt real-world social bonding. Ethical concerns such as data privacy, emotional manipulation, and regulatory gaps are highlighted. The study underscores the need for balanced AI integration in human socialization. The study also addresses gaps in previous literature by examining AI’s influence on different demographic groups and cultural contexts.
Let me tell you a story. Perhaps you can guess where this is going... though it does have a bit of a twist.
I was poking around Google Scholar for publications about the relationship between chatbots and wellness. Oh how useful: a systematic literature review! Let's dig into the findings. 🧵

05.12.2025 12:21 — 👍 6 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Congregational Racial Composition and Mental Health Among Black Churchgoers in the United States Purchased Anna Holleman Sociology of Religion, sraf028, https://doi.org/10.1093/socrel/sraf028 Published: 02 December 2025 From conclusion: Why might Black attenders of predominantly White congregations not have worse mental health and wellbeing compared to Black attenders of predominantly Black congregations? Selection effects and demographics may be one potential reason. Black attenders of predominantly White congregations are substantially different in many ways from Black attenders of predominantly Black congregations—including regarding demographic characteristics, political preferences, and religious practices and beliefs. Importantly, Black attenders of predominantly White congregations are significantly more likely to report a bi- or multi-racial identity, more likely to be in an interracial marriage, and more likely to have attended a predominantly White congregation during childhood. Clearly, there are immense selection effects at play regarding Black people who decide to attend predominantly White congregations compared to Black people to decide to attend predominantly Black congregations. However, even when controlling for this wide variety of demographic, ideologically, political, and religious characteristics, I found that Black attenders of White congregations did not demonstrate a mental health, life satisfaction, or happiness penalty. Another potential reason may be congregational characteristics and experiences. The worship and organizational practices of predominantly Black congregations are distinct in many ways compared to White congregations. However, again, even when controlling for key congregational characteristics, I found that Black attenders of White congregations did not show any difference in their life satisfaction.
New Research — Soc of Religion
In contrast to past findings in other white spaces, Black attenders of predominantly white churches do not demonstrate worse mental health, lower life satisfaction or less happiness compared to Black attenders of predominantly Black churches.
