ahw I love it, so cozy!! I've been using sims sometimes as well to design rooms and get a grasp of the overall perspective. And for me it also feels easier to add details in later when I have a base like this 🙏 really a life saver

It's starting to look like a comic!!

All the main speechbubbles are done. I might keep the background colours very simple like this. Then add some blacks. The test scene had a shadow layer on top, but I think it works well without.

I might brighten it up a bit though, for print.

Btw I didn’t apply, because I have other priorities this year. I might appear on smaller local conventions, which are less time consuming and (financially) risky.

My timeline rn is just one dokomi rejection after another 😔 I wonder what the ratio this year is of application/tables because I only saw like three being accepted.

How stressful it must be with the con gamble, either you get in and can make big part of years salary or you get nothing.

Charactersheet of my updated persona design. There are several sketches and two clean drawings, one dynamic pose and one standing. The character has little green alien antenna and brown hair with star Highlights, a star carabiner and star patches on the pants. These are dark blue, with turquoise belt, same Color as the sneakers. The shirt is cropped with purple sleeves and white body and a green alien print. There is also a green alien cat.

Im ending this year with an update of my persona to embrace my true alien self 🙏👽🛸🖖

I've seen around a lot of conversation of bringing back comics to artist alleys (hell yes) so here's one for that:

Practice short stories!!!

Try to do short comics of 20/40 pages that feel satisfying to read before starting your magnum opus of 7 volumes of 200 pages each.

I get it! It's what I plan. For my current project, I really just wanna draw slice of life. Explore personalities. Feel good fluff, if you so want.
And everytime a voice from the off comes: "But wouldn't that be boring for others?" My inner voice comes in and counters: "But it is what inspires you!"

I’ve really come around to listening to my inner voice. 😌 It sounds a bit woo-woo, but honestly: your inner voice knows what you should do and what you shouldn’t. And if you follow it, things will turn out fine!

This actually also works the other way around! If you enjoy comfort stories, don't feel the need to add drama or toxicity!
I feel if a story is genuine, as a reader one can feel it.

From a manga artist’s perspective: this also applies to your stories! Don’t sand them down smooth just because you’re afraid of outrage. Good stories are allowed to have sharp edges - edges that cut.
