I don't know if it's my favourite, but David Kelsey's book Imagining Redemption is very accessible and thought-provoking (and also short).

Roller coaster with Air Canada over past few days. We were booked to fly to Winnipeg, expected it to be cancelled because of strike, told it would go ahead today, then cancelled. Trying to request refund: email says do it online, website says to call, when I call they say do it online. Arghh..

But I agree that there has not been a reckoning with what the “international” mandate of these organizations mean in the current context. I’m not going to AAR this year but I do hope to go again at some point.

I did contact the AAR executive director about this back when CAUT issued their travel advisory. They responded to my email right away, recognizing the issue—they knew of advisory— and pointing to virtual options.

My only encounter with him was his very eloquent and moving sermon at George Vandervelde’s funeral. Those two had an agreement that whoever outlived the other would preach at their funeral. I don’t really recall what he said, but your tribute rings true based on my memory of that day.

Very happy to see this history of the Toronto Mennonite Theological Centre published. It's by Susan Fish, based on both documentary sources and several interviews (including of me).

1. Connecting with and supporting students. We have great students (I just wish we could persuade more students to take our courses/programs!)
2. Making new connections with colleagues in other Arts programs. Esp as we face big institutional challenges, these connections are vital.

The final virtual class meeting of my "Peace Church Theology" course is tonight. Students are presenting on books they reviewed which is always engaging.

I have written a letter to the board and administration and strongly encourage colleagues to do the same. It is important that Ambrose University know that many are watching.

Some FOMO right now. I'm teaching a spring course and so not participating in either of these conferences in the coming days: Canadian Theological Society (in Toronto), and Believers Church Conference (in Amsterdam).

At this point, no. I have attended AAR almost every year for over 20 years but will not do this year. The CAUT advisory confirmed this decision for me.
