Copy of "Poblacht Na hÉireann – The Provisional Government of the Irish Republic to the People of Ireland." It is the proclamation of Irish independence, issued during the 1916 Easter Rising. The text addresses Irish men and women, declaring Ireland's right to freedom and sovereignty. It speaks of generations of struggle against British rule and calls on the Irish people to support the newly declared republic. The proclamation is signed at the bottom by seven leaders: Thomas J. Clarke, Seán Mac Diarmada, Thomas MacDonagh, P. H. Pearse, Éamonn Ceannt, James Connolly, and Joseph Plunkett. The document is printed in bold black lettering on yellowed paper.
