Haha yes always supporting some underdogs (as well as classics)! Kanthapura is def an outlier but it’s rly good β€” told from the perspective a female villager amidst Gandhi’s campaign for independence

I love so many of these! Cloud Atlas, Jane Eyre, The Corrections (the high point of Franzen’s career as far as I’m concerned)

It honestly is just a self-perpetuating cycle and it all starts with both access to education and class (ie money buys entries into elite schools which further enhances the initial divide, etc)

Yes to The Color Purple and Hunger Games! Need to read Song of Solomon

Love this focus on lesser known women writers! I’m doing a PhD in English rn (focus on modernism) so always love to see the beyond-the-canon writers get some attention πŸ‚

A small crew I’ve been able to find so far (a moment where Bluesky does feel quite small) but hopefully it’ll only grow from here!

'A City on Mars' is a reality check for anyone dreaming about life on the Red Planet It wasn't until maybe a year before we were done writing β€” and we wrote for four years β€” that we decided this book is actually about why space settlements aren't coming soon.

Surprise, surprise, we might be jumping the gun a bit with the whole β€˜moving to Mars Mission’ (this looks like such a good read ps. w some actually well-researched insight

I mean I feel like rn there aren’t many aestheticizations of COVID bc we all just want to move on and I think the Spanish Flu might be similar. You should check out Woolf’s essay on this β€” I think it’s called β€˜On Illness’

Well, look at the state of society rn β€” I’d say the demonization of the humanities is part of the problem bc no one has any nuance, capacity to see things from other POVs etc

#currentlyreading David Chariandy’s Brother!

What I love most about this novel is that it combines a nuanced portrait of brotherhood with a real plot. Shows you can have characterization, poignant themes and a page-turner all-in-one πŸ’™πŸ“š#LiteratureSky

Trying to start a general global literature feed #LiteratureSky if you’re interested in using it! I’ve found there’s not one that’s broad enough to encompass all literature but is less premised on genre fiction yet

Currently reading All the Light We Cannot See and I must say, was expecting for the male and female characters to meet at some point and I’m 2/3 through and still, nope, just have the two divergent narratives going on … #LiteratureSky πŸ’™πŸ“š
