What if โ hear me out โ some people just sincerely think digital ID would be a good idea for public policy and that the trade-off with civil liberties is worth taking, and a weird quasi-conspiracy isn't required?

One of the more sensible suggestions I saw instead of a web of private companies for the DSA would have been a government portal with 2FA-style keys.
The act being a civil liberties nightmare notwithstanding, not having this infra makes gov.uk increasingly impotent when it comes to modern problems.

That aligns with the grifter checkmark economy of X tbh, the AI slop get-rich-quick threads are a significant proportion.

Really anyone who isn't on a half hourly tariff at this point is getting ripped off.
Most days are like this, the few that are not are more than made up for.

The "chaos" if you read the piece is because they didn't think the ban went far enough, and was perhaps a little confusing at the time as shoppers would (and still do) get plastic bags for fresh meat and fish, and things like razorblades without a charge.
I mean it was a bit of hyperbole, but fine?
31.07.2025 09:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0
The Mail actually backed the ban as part of a campaign they had been running for years. They still are backing campaigns around bottle deposit schemes (as in Europe) and on coffee cups.

A bigger clock!? There's not even a clock there at all now!
Is the small clock a 2024H2 update? one from its name you would expect me to have by now, but actually because of some probably-hardware-related reason I don't! God damn I'm so jealous.

Awesome!
Couple of notes:
- No support for 2FA codes, so if you did this to steal my account extremely well deserved.
- The refreshing 'Loading post content' flicker is giving me a seizure, could that be less intrusive? Little spinner off to the side or something that doesn't move the main content?

UK to recognise Palestinian state unless Israel agrees Gaza ceasefire
Keir Starmer has faced increasing pressure from ministers over Britainโs stance on the issue
So the UK Government position is that Palestine is only a state if there are no Palestinians left?
Just ludicrous policymaking๐ซ

Hmm, I guess you could look at recent games like Arc Raiders which use machine learning to train their robots how to navigate terrain and draw the line between those, but imo the pacman reference is so early you're basically saying any and all programming leads to using ML models for codegen.

There's "AI programming" that is programming artificial intelligence, or algorithms, and then there's "AI programming" that is using "AI" (a marketing term) to do programming (aka a superset of vibe coding).
You could AI program (verb) some AI program (noun). It's not really the same?

I love that Today this morning is discussing Google's AI mode as a potential impact on our mental faculties when surely the more concerning and obvious problem is that it runs roughshod over the tacit agreements that underscore the internet as a source of information.
Call it Google Zero.

Totally agree, honestly think it deserves comms on how they treat it.
I'm guessing here it's because he's at a press conference with the EC president announcing it, but he's been known to just announce this stuff himself and the notifications don't carry that context ๐ bsky.app/profile/impl...

This is not saying don't tell me about it, it's saying please use a more authoritative source than the President of the US.
Ridiculous that needs to be said but the guy is not trustworthy. And I am not watching the presser.

My favourite part of news publishers push notifying me of a US-EU trade deal with the sole source being the President of the US is that I have no idea if it's true.
