This alignment suggests that public health efforts are concentrated in regions experiencing elevated rates of opioid-related harms.
Given the widespread nature of harms, ongoing efforts are needed to clearly understand specific community-based needs for harm reduction services and supplies.
A recent ODPRN study analyzing provincial harm reduction supply distribution revealed that public health units with the highest rates of opioid-related mortality also had among the highest distribution levels of harm reduction supplies.

The EMS opioid response dashboard has been updated on the Ontario Opioid Indicator Tool with new Q2 2025 data.
Overall, the rate of suspected opioid toxicities treated by EMS in Ontario increased in Q2 2025 compared to Q1, although trends differed across regions.

This evidence reinforces that hospitals and community care need strong, seamless pathways so that people can be connected to OAT quickly and continue receiving support where they live.
During #NAAW, we’re highlighting the importance of creating integrated pathways that reduce preventable harms.
New research highlights: Starting OAT after a hospital-treated opioid toxicity significantly lowers the risk of a repeat overdose.
