Idk how to snap people out of that fantasy that law enforcement is the untouchable pinnacle of community safety. They have waste and abuse just like anyone. Maybe crap like this police raid in South Park can help break the spell for some? This isn't public safety.

License plate tech has never proven to reliably reduce crime anywhere it's been used. it's a waste of funds. Leaders can say they want money for good programs, but none so far will consider redirecting mass surveillance $ to actual safety programs. Why? Because leaders take their orders from police.

Today from a brewery filled with conference goers I observed a container ship motoring by the fishing boats parked near the sidewalk where San Diegans jog. Tourists sat beside me eating tacos and I admit I did have a double IPA in front of me . This was the most San Diego moment.

Not sure that we want people experiencing an earthquake to be tempted to play around with their phone in those critical moments. If the alert arrived meaningfully earlier, OK, but if the jolt and the phone panic arrive together, does it sharply divide peoples attention at the exact wrong moment?

Redirecting to the desired behavior is the operative instruction there. The No is for the human (we can't help ourselves), the following instruction after the no is for the dog to know what to do.

This is a very human way of thinking! Seems like to a dog you are just teaching 2 sounds, No and Sit that both mean to the dog "human wants me to sit". Why would a dog ever understand the universal concept of No as we humans comprehend it?

Typically if you are telling a dog no, you have in your mind what you want them to do instead. Better to skip the No and go instead directly to communicating/incentivizing the action you proactively do want.

All signs point to dogs not comprehending mental concepts like No. Can become problematic mostly once humans start believing dogs do comprehend No and are "misbehaving" by not reacting "properly" to no.

Wowsers. San Diego City Council President Joe LaCava has docketed a vote next Tuesday to repeal the city’s ADU bonus program.

Earlier today, the item was to *rescind* the council’s repeal request in order to neutralize a Brown Act complaint.
