Does Trump want to destroy the US education system? Is it because he wants Americans to be ignorant? So that he can fool them all and feed them lies. He knows that Idiocracy was a satirical film, right?

They joined what they joined. They lent their support and their moral approval. And, in so doing, they bound themselves to everything that came after. Who cares any more what particular knot they used in the binding?'

That word is "Nazi." Nobody cares about their motives anymore.

Speech bubble: A callout to kidslit authors! I'm giving a presentation to kids about the merits of editing. Are there any words of wisdom that you would like to share? How do you edit your own work? Do you even like editing your own work? (If not, how do you motivate yourself to edit your own work?) What do you like about having an editor review your work? (Do you find it difficult or comfortable to receive feedback?) All advice and thoughts welcome!

My context is commercial children's middle-grade fiction. I wouldn't mind if they are being used with consideration, but I don't think a text needs to have comma splices on every other page, throughout a 240-page book, for example.

I take your point, but the avoidance of comma splices is mentioned in practically all grammar guides, both UK and US. (UK copy-editors, by and large, follow New Hart's Rules for guidance.)

I'm afraid so, but all authors use them! You go ahead and write! It's the copy-editor's job to catch the comma splices :-)

Dearest darling UK #kidslit #copyeditors and #proofreaders, please do look out for comma splices when working on #kidslit books. I see too many in published books. Children are taught to avoid them, so it would be super if we could minimise the presence of comma splices in the books they read.
