Saturday was It's My Park Day, & I joined Zilker 351 to help complete a microforest project at Zilker Park.

Zilker 351 and the Austin Parks Foundation planted 140 native trees and saplings in this area that was previously overrun with invasive species. (1/2)

Through its partnership with the Austin Parks Foundation, ACL Fest helps fund park improvements across the city, while also generating a significant economic impact that benefits Austin year after year.

It was great hearing from the APD K-9 Unit about how they help keep major events like ACL Fest safe, and seeing the care that goes into protecting Zilker’s grass, restoring the park, and managing waste before and after the festival.

We had a great tour of the ACL Festival grounds at Zilker Park in District 8, led by Emmett Beliveau of C3 and joined by Colin Wallis from the Austin Parks Foundation and our public safety teams.

From October 18 through November 2, join community-led events across the city celebrating the trees, plants, fungi, and wildlife that make Austin’s urban ecosystem thrive.

The Roots & Wings Festival returns this fall for its 8th annual celebration of Austin’s natural world! 🌳🦋

In District 8, look for fun events at Zilker Botanical Garden (where I was able to see these gorgeous butterflies), the Austin Nature & Science Center, & the Violet Crown Trail at Gaines Creek!

This effort helps protect recreation, native plants, and the water quality we all depend on.

To help manage its growth, the City’s Watershed Protection Department and Texas Parks and Wildlife are releasing about 2,000 sterile grass carp into Lake Austin.

These fish naturally feed on hydrilla but don’t reproduce.

A fast-growing invasive plant called hydrilla has spread rapidly in Lake Austin.

Sediment and organic debris flowing through the Highland Lakes, combined with warm, calm conditions, have helped hydrilla thrive.

These improvements have delivered real results — fewer crashes, fewer injuries, and more people making it home safely each day. (4/4)

Thanks to mobility bonds approved in 2016, 2018, and 2020, along with continued safety investments citywide, Austin has made progress through redesigned intersections, safer crossings, and better lighting. (3/4)

Austin was among the early U.S. cities to adopt its approach, and last Friday we came together with City leaders, TxDOT, Austin Police Department, @safestreetsaustin.bsky.social and community advocates to mark a decade of progress toward safer streets for everyone. (2/4)
