For different reasons applies to display-less AI glasses too, since I don’t think a display is actually as important to AR as people think. Still visual feedback is a must for any useful products to compete with smartphones. More limited your input/output options still a limitation (👀 at AI Pin).

This is exactly why I’d agree AR glasses will not replace smartphones (one of a few reasons). Smartphones are so easy to make, they’re a commodity and AR glasses by definition of being worn on the face and controlling so much of the visual perception system will not be as easy for a long long time.

Because of the current limitations/tradeoffs? (thermals, battery life, size, field of view-cost ratio of waveguides)? 😂 yea, then I agree. It’s hard AF and those are a lot of trade offs but I do not see why it is impossible… someday.

I’m sure Meta can either solve the display/optical problems on their own. They have to ship something first though 😂 or partner with someone.

Snap Spectacles work outside. Thermals & power problem though (~30min). Magic Leap 2 works outside, req segmented dimming though.

Bigger problem outside isn’t the display/optics problems, but tracking. Wind throws off all tacking systems (to my knowledge) tall grass & trees mess things up quick.
