Black text on a yellow background - This is Alice's friend Sandy Ho, posting. Per Alice's wishes, this message is being shared at the time of her passing.
Hi everyone, it looks like I ran out of time. I have so many dreams that I wanted to fulfill and plans to create new stories for you. There are a few in progress that might come to fruition in a few years if things work out. I did not ever imagine I would live to this age and end up a writer, editor, activist, and more. As a kid riddled with insecurity and internalized ableism, I could not see a path forward. It was thanks to friendships and some great teachers who believed in me that I was able to fight my way out of miserable situations into a place where I finally felt comfortable in my skin.
We need more stories about us and our culture.
You all, we all, deserve the everything and more in such a hostile, ableist environment. Our wisdom is incisive and unflinching. I'm honored to be your ancestor and believe disabled oracles like us will light the way to the future. Don't let the bastards grind you down. I love you all.

Canadians rejected this approach in 2015 but social conditions continued to decline under Justin Trudeau, making it easy for Poilievre to resurrect it. The gap between the rich and poor has exploded to historic highs, triggering a new and worrisome public face of desperation: that which politicians would call crime. And yet, if weโ€™ve never actually been safer before (unless weโ€™re a Shopperโ€™s Drug Martโ€™s baby food section), why are our politicians hiring more and more cops and changing our bail laws? If crime is not up, what is with all this spending on so-called crime-fighting measures?

The answer is easy: expanding the security state is necessary if the rich are going to keep making the money they are making. They are talking about security not for the people, but of profits. We cannot be allowed to riot. We cannot be allowed to smash the windows of the Royal Bank or Loblawโ€™s. They know that thatโ€™s what comes next and theyโ€™re heading us off at the pass โ€ฆ and way too many Canadians are thanking them for their wisdom in doing so.

an appropriate response to your product killing a child after months of psychological manipulation and torture is to take the product off the market before it kills again and the fact that this isnโ€™t universally accepted right now is incredibly frightening

I feel the fatal flaw is in the use of "everything" as that desire to describe many traits contradicts the logic of a range. Like, you could describe the 3 elements and then add a "and much more" at the end. But I remember doing PR writing and that realm of writing loves a "something for everyone."

iโ€™ve said it before and iโ€™ll say it again: what we want is for these things to be run like a HOUSEHOLDโ€ฆ a home. A household still has a budget and an income and resources to manage; all the moving parts are the same but the focus is different.

a business will let every person in it die a terrible death if it makes the business profit. A household will spend itโ€™s last dollar to keep the people in it safe and healthy.

A household will use money as a resource to add value to the lives of the people in the household. A business will use people as a resource to add monetary value to the business

We donโ€™t want a government run like a business, we want a country run like a household. Because we live here.

Treat Yourself to Devours | The Tyee Meet Jeff Cancade, the synth pop artist whose cult following reflects the power of radical honesty.

Devours' wit and vulnerability infuses their diaristic songs about middle age, queer life and the challenges of eking out a living in an expensive city. ๐ŸŽถ

A good response. Holly's book linked in the thread is also an excellent synthesis of feminism, queer theory and Marxism.

Stories that some people think of as โ€œapoliticalโ€ only appear that way to them because they reinforce the dominant political ideology, what these people think of as โ€œnormal,โ€ and therefore their political elements, very apparent to those of us who suffer under the status quo, are invisible to them.

Trans representation isnโ€™t trans liberation | Xtra Magazine OPINION: Even at its zenith, the trendiness of โ€œdiversityโ€ appears to have done little to improve the day-to-day lives of trans people as a vulnerable and exploited class
