What are your *weird* tricks for beating writer's block? Not the normal ones, like "go for a walk!" or "brainstorm!" or "take a break!"
I mean *weird,* like "stand on your head for thirty minutes while reciting the alphabet backwards." Stuff that shouldn't work but does.

I take notes on various things as part of my writing process, but it's exclusively to make myself laugh. And keep track of how tall everyone is.

HOW ARE YOU TODAY, VOID? WOULD YOU CARE FOR SOME EXISTENTIAL ANGST?

Me, to my dog: "Jeffrey, why do you like licking and chewing on books so much?"
My friend who I married: "He takes after his mom."
Me: "I don't eat books!"
My friend who I married: "No, but you devour them."
Me: "...that's fair."

I agree that "write every day" is good advice. I also agree that it doesn't work. So, I propose we start saying "TRY to write every day." Then we acknowledge the power of habit and intention AND the inherent messiness and imperfection of human existence.

I am not a patient person. More than anything else that has helped me become more patient, writing books has.

Oh, and doing most of my shopping online. The closest I get to "now" is "two days from now."
