Glasgwegian emigrated east to Auld Reekie (Edinburgh) and stayed. Love all things in nature and natural history, travel, taking photos, coffee and cake.

12.10.2025 09:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I had the privilege of attending the Scottish Womenβs Hospitals end of WWI commemoration in 1998 at Royaumont Abbey, outside Paris. I represented my great aunt who was an ambulance driver on the front.
12.10.2025 09:36 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Was a great day in the sunshine. Was up the Water of Leith. Looking at mostly insects and fungi, but saw a Dipper, Pink-footed Geese overhead and an adult Buzzard with a juvenile calling from trees!
11.10.2025 15:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah looks like Fuligo septica, I prefer the common name Flowers of Tan (from the French) or Scrambled Egg Slime Mould. Thereβs another one called (common name) Dog Sick Slime Mould. No idea what the difference is, probably a microscope job!
11.10.2025 15:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Aw, sorry you didnβt see the Spoonbill but Marsh Sandpiper made up for it. Nice collection of sightings too.
11.10.2025 15:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Saw the Ring-necked Duck but not the Mandarin. Did you see the female Shoveler there, last year?
10.10.2025 21:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0ππ Local twitching is ok!! There were 5 or 6 Spoonbills about 6 years ago at Buistβs Embankment near Tynningehame. Saw them there but not close.
10.10.2025 20:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Not been yet and out all day tomorrow with Edinburgh Nats (ENHS). Might go Sunday or through the week. Hopefully still there. Good luck, hope you see it.

10.10.2025 17:26 β π 15 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I wondered if this tiny feather might be from Long-tailed Tit, but don't see it on Featherbase under Aegithalos caudatus. 09.10.2025 16:03 β π 13 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0Managed to grab an iPhone pic of the (so-called) Harvest Supermoon between banks of cloud. At 7.25pm, we are too low to see it rising any earlier. Harvest time it may be but I donβt get the super bit! @metoffice.gov.uk

03.10.2025 13:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Post was from 9 Sept near the coast; was same in our city garden, for once the buddleja was actually behaving like a butterfly bush! But yes agreed, depends on time of year and species. We had a bumper year for recently arrived Holly Blues in 2024; not so much in 2025

I find this statement @savebutterflies.bsky.social difficult to understand. As far as I'm aware 2025 has been the best for #butterflies for some years: "Despite great weather this summer, the number of butterflies recoded in the Big Butterfly Count only reached average levels." #ukwildlife
03.10.2025 12:50 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Gosh, what a mystery. Whatever could have happened to them?

Interesting, the books donβt say that about clonal patches. I did spot a few patches during the visit. The plant was itself an βother interesting thingβ, I was there looking for toothed fungi. Successfully!
