Predator Badlands was so much fun. I think it's proof that even in the soul-sucking business of producing for franchises, taking risks (however small)and venturing into unfamiliar territory can be a rewarding experience. You don't have to rehash the same old story. #scifi #movies #writing

Now, after being acquired by Canva, they have taken down all purchasing options and are planning a mysterious "creative freedom" event on 10/30. The community is rightfully anxious of the seemingly inevitable "enshitification" either through some forced subscription, AI or both. #design #creativity

I've been using the Affinity suite of designer software for about five years now. It is an amazing piece of software and I recommended it to all my designer friends. It was an amazing value and incredible quality piece of software. Most importantly very fairly priced. One time fee!

When books were being pulled from Iowa classrooms, these teens started an after-school club to read them Three Iowa City West high schoolers founded a book club that reads some of the country's most frequently banned books after a state law removing books with sexual content was signed in 2023. Two years later, many of the books have been reshelved and parts of the law can't be enforced.

Pritzker: Throughout history we've learned that tyranny doesn't arrive with dramatic proclamations. Most times it comes quietly wrapped in the language of law and order, with fingers pointed at someone who doesn't look like you, promising safety while demanding that we sacrifice our neighbors.

(around an image of the No Kings logo) IT’S OFFICIAL

Nearly 7 million people have attended today's peaceful protests, which makes No Kings Day the biggest single-day protest against tyranny in American history!

With more than 2,700 lawful and peaceful protests across all 50 states, No Kings Day was 14 times larger than both of Trump's presidential inaugurations (combined).

A person in an inflatable frog costume stands on a rectangular, cement flower pot above a crowd of #NoKings protesters. The frog is covered in decorative black spots and is wearing a blue bandana. Nearby, two people wearing seahorse costumes, one pink and one purple, stand next to each other holding hands while other people mill around them.

We’re in the middle of a nationwide frog costume supply chain crisis. Thanks, Trump.

Ok. But was the mediocrity widely known? I don't read Weiss or Klein, and wasn't familiar with their writing, but after listening to the Coates episode of his podcast, my first reaction was "this is what counts as influential political punditry?" Not an iota of original thought or depth of inquiry.

Jane Goodall’s final, urgent, message "Intelligent creatures don’t destroy their only home.”

Before her death, Jane Goodall left us all with a compelling message from her last interviews: While we’re the most 'intellectual animals' to ever walk the planet, "we’re not intelligent."

β€œBecause intelligent creatures don’t destroy their only home.”

From our friends at @vox.com:

Whatever you do, please don’t stop reading.

Read for joy. Read for education. Read for resistance. Read banned books. Read books by marginalized authors. Read about experiences that differ from your own.

Just. Keep. Reading.
