I mean the attacks on immigrants were pretty robust throughout the Biden administration. The bill the White House negotiated would have effectively banned asylum.

Asylum seekers’ jewellery could be seized to pay for processing costs, says Home Office minister Idea borrowed from Denmark is latest attempt to reduce number of people seeking asylum in UK

The Home Secretary also plans to weaken human rights protections, make it harder to appeal bad asylum decisions, and limit people's rights to asylum support.

Particularly shocking are reported plans to snatch jewellery from people who have arrived in the UK with nothing but what they can carry.

Long burst is when you can actually see the agents. Short bursts when you can’t but you’re alerting the community. If you’re showing up to form a crowd, go towards the long bursts.

This is a new low from a govt plumbing the depths of performative cruelty in hopes that the public won’t notice they have no answers to the real issues facing this country

A sensible, humane govt would focus on safe routes to prevent people making dangerous small boat crossings

That would be the abolition of the asylum system. Request *after entry* is definitional to asylum. A request outside of the country is the refugee program.

Abolishing asylum would be a major change in federal law and an incredible breach of the UNHCR agreement the U.S. made with the rest of the world.

That’s an insane statement to make. A stand alone funding bill passed in April. It was separated out of the border bill at the GOP’s request.

They want to hurt people. USBP has the highest rate of criminal convictions among any law enforcement agency, and they may arguably have the most impunity - which is to say most of the crimes they commit are likely never reported or actioned.

That we’d be *safer* if there were no borders, no police, no prisons, and we built institutions instead centered on repair.

Law enforcement has always attracted men with a weak sense of self, and that’s been especially true for USBP. These crimes and abuses usually happen quietly in the desert, and their victims are often disappeared through deportation or worse.

I get what you’re saying but the system was built to be used this way. For instance, CBP has long maintained an understanding of β€œborder” that means Lake Michigan is the β€œborder” and they can operate within 100 miles of that.

That and we already have the refugee program, which is separate from asylum and is applied for outside of the country.

It’s part of a money trail that’s been shrouded in secrecyβ€”and involves $220 million, a mysterious Delaware LLC & a horse named Gill.

I did see a video alleging the incident. You can’t see the alleged shooter/vehicle but it looks like someone probably shot into the air a few blocks away. The agents were not at 25/kedzie (maybe a few blocks east) and had a pretty delayed, non urgent response.
