Why did you think it was appropriate to talk about a trans child having no experience of life as a cis adult? Would you apply the same standard to a gay child? Do you recognise that "how do you know you're gay if you haven't tried being straight" is homophobic? Why would you apply that logic to us?

Why were trans people and experts in our care considered too biased to participate, but multiple members of SEGM were not? If relevant expertise was a source of bias, why was Kaltiala involved? Why are the identities of most contributors still secret? How can we trust such a clearly biased process?

Why is psychotherapy the first line of treatment for gender dysphoria despite no evidence whatsoever of efficacy? Why is low quality, conflicting evidence that it *may* help with depression sufficient to recommend it for all patients, when higher quality, consistent evidence for PBs/HRT is not?

She doesn't even think her actual positions are wrong! Just her attempts to reach out to the people who hate us and want us dead.

I also feel like "more extreme on democracy and the rule of law" is actually the key issue here? If they get their way on those, none of their other stated positions matters a damn, because they can do whatever the hell they like.

Yes, absolutely. Including the previous decisions in the FWS case from the Scottish Court of Session, both of which correctly read parliament's intent and interpreted the Equality Act and the GRA accordingly. Both are far more clearly, coherently argued than the supreme court judgment.

It's an excellent judgment, but also immensely frustrating to read. The judge displays the clear understanding of the purpose of the GRA and the meaning of Goodwin that was entirely absent from the FWS ruling. This is what a good faith attempt to engage with parliament's clear intent looks like.

The EHRC's intervention actually argued that the Equality Act as written should be interpreted as trans inclusive. They also spent a large chunk of it complaining that it should be written differently, because of course they did, but they didn't agree with Sex Matters on the key question.

I solve this problem by having no useful skills at all.

Seriously, though: it's ok to put yourself first. Take care of yourself. I'm sure you'd give the same advice to someone else in the same position.

This is a) terrible, and b) hugely better than the UK. Not sure what the % is over here - @hleehurley.com probably has a rough idea, at least - but we would kill for fully 30% of all stories about trans rights quoting trans people. And 30% is abysmal! It ought to be 100%!

It's actually even worse than that. According to the supreme court, the GRA never applied to the precursor to the Equality Act, the Sex Discrimination Act of 1975. They've retrospectively removed large parts of the recognition conferred by a GRC all the way back to the passage of the GRA in 2004.

Indeed. Given SCUK's expansive reading of s9.3 of the GRA, even the statute enacted with the explicit goal of compliance with Goodwin fails to actually comply with Goodwin.

One might argue that this is a point they should have considered in interpreting said statute, but I'm sure they know best...
