One of my biggest gripes about social services, especially when assisting marginalized populations, is the number of meetings organizations and agencies have to determine "what we can do better."

When 80% of our time is spent in meetings, only 20% remains to make any type of impact.

One of the niffiest things to do when writing a grant and developing a program is the program logic model.

It makes you step back and consider the program. What long term outcomes do you hope to achieve? What inputs do you need to make this program happen, and what outputs will it produce?

While Indiana—along with states such as Minnesota—has been a national leader in initiatives addressing substance use disorder (SUD) and recovery, many of these innovative programs continue to fall short in addressing barriers to basic needs.

To complicate matters further, many of these low-income areas are classified as food deserts (shaded purple), meaning residents live more than 1+ mile from the nearest grocery store. Within these recovery residences, many lack access to transportation, making it even more difficult to obtain food.

In Marion County, Indiana a significant portion of recovery residences are situated in low-income ZIP Codes (shaded blue), often because housing is more affordable in these areas. Unfortunately, this isolates residents, many of whom live below FPL, in neighborhoods lacking vital resources.

Meals on Wheels NO Limits to Recovery program is now accepting referrals for individuals in early recovery in Marion County! Participants get weekly meals, pantry boxes, Cooking Matters classes, and a Welcome Kit with NARCAN to support health and recovery.
