Am I missing some key context, or is it actually true that the GOP position is that poor people can't eat unless enough Democrats vote with Republicans to reduce access to healthcare? Because that's what it seems to boil down to.

It does so patiently for each student individually, customizing responses based on their queries about why such a step was necessary or what lambda is, etc. It does what I'd do if I had infinite 1-on-1 time to offer. And it does it quite well, actually.

Well, let's be real, though. AI as a tool isn't going away, so we might as well try to figure out how to make it improve things rather than just let it worsen things.

Ex: I made a chatbot that acts as a queuing theory tutor: it generates practice problems & then thoroughly explains each solution.

I remember complaining about my students lacking basic critical thinking skills more pointedly well before 2020, so it's not the pandemic either as *the* cause (but yes, disrupted schooling may have magnified the decay by pushing kids to spend more time on their phones engaging with social media).

AI alone didn't cause the general decay of critical thinking skills. It might make it worse, if we let it be used poorly, but this slide towards idiocy has been going on for over a decade now. Most evidence points to the rise of smartphones combined with social media replacing traditional media.

Property taxes are lower than the income tax rates they would need to put in place to offset the losses, so that trade would be dumb financially (unless they don't raise income tax rates enough and starve every county to death...which I guess is conceivable given who's pushing for this).

I imagine many of the state legislators are approaching that status quickly and want to lock in post-retirement property tax benefits for themselves, regardless of whether it's a good idea for most Ohioans. Self-serving and corrupt...that's our state government.

I see this as nothing more than catering to the elderly (and largely white) homeowners who make up most of the GOP in Ohio...folks who own their home (have since 1985) but have relatively little actual income due to being retired. That's the only group better off because of it.
