all the senators who voted no: uhhh listen. we live... to fight another day. for our fighting. and i think voters will recognize who was fighting for their fighting.

tim kaine, out loud: oh you would not believe how many people were glad we're around to get yelled at for them, they were SWEATING

I only knew about it because of watching an old documentary about the Great Lakes which brought it up. And I kinda doubt the documentary would have mentioned the Edmund Fitzgerald at all if not for the song.

I won't insult your intelligence by pretending you actually believe what you saying, so I will simply call on you to resign in disgrace.

This "Get back to fighting united" garbage wouldn't be said by anyone who was actually upset about this, anyone who actually wanted to fight. This is the rhetoric of a weasel who is trying to get people to stop criticizing their betrayal by implying that the critics are the real problem, not them.

This is what Schumer was talking about when he said they were close to a deal to reopen the government: it wasn't a deal with Republicans, it was a deal among Democrats on who would be the ones to be the ones on record voting with the Republicans.

10.11.2025 22:33 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

More Dems WANTED to side with the Republicans, but they know it's bad for them electorally, so they coordinated to make sure that they could avoid openly supporting it while using convenient scapegoats who aren't facing election anytime soon to take the heat for them.

10.11.2025 22:32 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

It's like how a few Republican legislators in unsafe seats keep being a no vote on bills that just barely pass by one or two votes. In their case, they are coordinating so that they can appear not to support it while making sure it passes. The Dems are similarly coordinating blame on safe targets.

Threads like this, where people who voted "no" are acting like it's a betrayal of unity to criticize those who voted in favor of this bullshit, are an excellent indication that they made a deal behind the scenes for Dems who are going to retire to take the fall for what more of them wanted.

Why is the "we must be united!" hectoring directed at people who are mad at the Cavers and not to the Cavers? Everyone who's mad was united, then the Cave Caucus walked across the aisle and betrayed what the public had been told was the Dem position.

What’s β€œinternal”

Because apparently some of us are not on the inside and in EIGHT MONTHS you and your party have not listened or issued real statements that show us that

We’ve seen more briefings on abandoning β€œspecial interests” than actual outreach

While we get tear gassed in your cities

You went out of your way to enable this vote, and NOW you pretend you're opposed to it? Resign.

Not only is covert white supremacy socially acceptable; critiquing it or even just naming it is increasingly seen as socially unacceptable, or even as a radical instigation to violence deserving criticism or punishment.

Infuriating how often people decide that the best way to attack Trump is to be ableist instead of addressing any of the vast list of actual things he's done wrong.

Wealthy white Americans create food deserts in poor communities where no one can access a grocery store. Create a country where only the wealthy can afford fresh vegetables. And then create β€œhealth” trends where anyone that doesn’t eat β€œclean” is judged as a lesser human.

I remember playing the game for the first time back when the game was newly released here in the US, being amazed that they actually got approval for a storyline portraying environmental terrorists as good guys. At the time, I would have thought no major publisher would allow that.

"Commute to Boston from New Hampshire" sounds like a task Sisyphus would be given in the modern day.

I always joke the state motto of "Live Free or Die" was taken as a challenge to do both.

Oh the entire economy and politics of the State was based around not having a sales tax and selling big purchases, alcohol, tobacco, and fireworks (which were largely unregulated) everywhere on the borders with other states to attract out of state money. We called it "The New Hampshire Advantage".

07.11.2025 17:41 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

My ultimate New Hampshire story is when I listened to two people have a heated debate about whether we should build a new High School, and neither party even mentioned if we need it for the students, it was ENTIRELY based on "I don't want to pay taxes" vs "It'll raise our property values".

I grew up in New Hampshire, which is the ultimate example of this. The legislators get paid $100. That's not per week, or per month, that's their ANNUAL salary (with some minor stipends). This is because their salary was set by the state constitution, so changing it requires constitutional amendment

Clearly no one will receive their funding tomorrow, so please keep donating to food banks and community fridges

Please check on your friends and neighbours

Don’t assume people are β€œfine”

It is very hard to ask for help.

Offer to drop off groceries, be a ride to a food bank or cook meals together
