Realized I could get game pass for a $1 so playing Halo 5 again for a month.

I hate to say it, but halo's narrative was never really about much other than nationalism, patriotism, and spectacle, and so I can't say I'm shocked that it's being used in the way that it is right now

Otherwise this just feels like what 343i was always good at: taking a step back without taking two more steps forward.

"Halo Studios" don't know what to do with the franchise, so they're falling back on an old trick. This feels much more like Combat Evolved Anniversary 2 than it a Halo: CE remake.

Two ways to go about that:

REmake all the assets with the same art direction as the original but without 2001 limitations. Make it play and sound the same, but better.

OR

reMAKE a brand new adaptation. Nothing is sacred. Keep the rough story, but design completely new areas, characters, & dialog.

We've had a fairly irreverent remaster of this game, which left the exact bones of the original covered in newer textures/assets.

So now we're getting that again?

There's evidence that the horror tone will at least be truer to the original. But why not REMAKE the game if you're REMAKING the game?

Immediately the forerunner architecture being shiny triangles and completely divorced from the original brutalist style, the need for the environment to be vibrant instead of barren/alien, and the crisp, efficient AR replacing the soft, round bullet hose really repel me.

Should either be faithful or a big departure and it seems like they're riding the line.

Feels sorta unfinished. Worried Halo Studios is just 343 in disguise.

I'd love multiplayer even without matchmaking.

Rewatching this for the first time and I'm just in awe. Obviously feels so Spielbergian - if any movie can be called that, it's this one. But also new and fantastic.

The Peacemaker finale was pretty fun! I was spoiled on the Nazi stuff, but I was pleasantly surprised the last episode avoided it entirely. Though the ending was a little predictable.
