Antidepressants can improve mental health but may have long-term side effects like emotional blunting, weight gain, sleep disruptions, and sexual dysfunction. Is the mental health field failing us? I think so. And so does Chris Palmer, psychiatrist out of Harvard Uni. #MentalHealth #Antidepressants
24.12.2024 19:36 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Long-term benzodiazepine (anti anxiety meds) use can lead to serious side effects like memory issues, dependence, depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and increased overdose risk. #HealthTips #MentalHealth
24.12.2024 19:35 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The STAR*D trial highlighted a critical conclusion: despite comprehensive, stepwise treatment approaches, 33% of patients still suffered from major depressive disorder even after progressing through all four levels of treatment. This outcome underscored the limitations of current treatment options.
24.12.2024 19:33 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Anonymity in AA and NA fosters relapse by isolating recovery within "secret" meetings, disconnected from those actively struggling. True sobriety demands accountability and a fellowship beyond the rooms, built by openly sharing our truths in the real world.

I don’t have ADHD, but when I’m so tired at night that I can barely keep my eyes open, the moment my head hits the pillow, my brain goes “Fuck you dude…party time. We’re inviting every thought that’s ever crossed your mind. And mix it with some shame and guilt. Cocktail time”.

18.12.2024 07:13 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Over prescribed to those who don’t need it, and under diagnosed for those who do. The mental health profession hasn’t coloured itself in a good light for way too long now. Which is why I backed my own research and “testing” to cure my side effects of pills and get my mental disorders in remission
18.12.2024 07:10 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0That sounds amazing. I’m very happy for you. No side effects at all? Weight gain, loss of libido? Loss of the ability to feel deep emotions? If that’s the case, wow!!!! Antidepressants robbed me of at least 20 decent years of my life.
18.12.2024 07:05 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0This is me…I’m on a warpath against mental illness and addiction!
17.12.2024 15:31 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0That I agree with wholeheartedly. Over 20 years my meds were tapered, changed, dosages adjusted and my life was miserable. For me, taking chemicals to mask symptoms simply was not an answer anymore. I have found real world solutions to my issues that highlighted the cause and mitigated the symptoms.
16.12.2024 08:47 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I was on antidepressants and mood stabilisers and it absolutely killed my quality of life and emotional system. For 20 years I was alive, but not living. Took me 10 years of research and experimentation on myself (not advised) to finally find purpose, meaning and brought back my ambition.
16.12.2024 08:45 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0What was the treatment that gave you back your freedom? And if antidepressants, what was the sacrifices?
15.12.2024 19:01 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Even at 19 years of sobriety, Sundays still remain one of my worst days. I don’t have triggers, nor do I crave alcohol, but it has always felt like a day of loneliness. Same with Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve. I wonder how many can relate
15.12.2024 14:31 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 05 signs you might have depression:
1. You seem incapable of getting out of bed each morning;
2. Your hobbies don’t give you a feeling of enjoyment anymore;
3. You isolate and ignore your phone or people;
4. You seek quick fixes like porn or doom scrolling social media;
5. You overthink the future;
Five signs you might be an alcoholic:
1. When you’re hungover the next day, your first thought is to have another drink to feel better;
2. You keep on drinking after having a meal;
3. You drink alone;
4. You wonder if you might have a problem;
5. When anxious, you know a drink will alleviate it;
Beautifully said. Emotions, highs and lows are absolutely essential to your physiological health. If you feel like grieving, it’s your body telling you it needs to. Antidepressants, unfortunately, kills that emotional ability and you will pay the price over time.
11.12.2024 13:02 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Why are these 5 fundamental guidelines not introduced at level 1 psychological and psychiatric treatment:
1. Understanding the illness AND the treatments
2. Community
3. Transparency
4. Service
5. Purpose
It took me 25 years of suffering from severe suicidal ideations and anxiety, to finally conduct my own insanely in depth 10 year research stint to finally compile a set of guidelines, where I could get off my meds, keep my depression in remission, keep my sobriety and live a healthy, balanced life.
11.12.2024 12:33 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It drives me up the wall to see people struggle, even when their conditions are in remission, because the treatment “adequately” subdue the symptoms, but the side effects are a worse trade off for most. Is science really evolving around these issues are we seeing something sinister at play?
11.12.2024 12:29 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It just goes to show how deeply flawed the mental health field is, how potentially big Pharma has a grip on mental health practitioners, and just how deep a patient’s tolerance of suffering could go to decide to just opt out and choose assisted suicide as an option.
