The dawning of the second Trump administration feels like a revolutionary moment. By which i do not mean “people are mad, they will over throw the government” but rather that 200 years from now people will say

Discord, of course, is the least centralized of all of these. The politics and content of any given Discord server are entirely up to the person(s) who run it, and I don't think we'll ever see the day when one Discord Server tries to get me to come join another (sponsored) one.

As for Reddit, that one is even more nebulous, but two points to consider. 1. Reddit is owned by shitheads. 2. Reddit is RUN by moderators. In this way it is decentralized, and it will reflect your own values in the way that you use it. (Also true of Blue Sky, if you work for it).

Two simple points here: 1. While I don't know much about the politics of the CEO, she seems like a measured and intelligent person, which in the middle years of the 21st century is all you can ask for. 2. It is a B Corp, which is no guarantee of ethical soundness, but is better than most options.

X users jump to Bluesky - but what is it and who owns it? Bluesky is picking up one million new users every day at its current rate.

My new loci of internet activity will be here on Blue Sky, Reddit, and Discord. This of course begs the question: how do I know these platforms are any better than the ones I'm leaving? The short answer is that I don't, when it comes to the internet you can't - Google can always turn into Alphabet.

Some thoughts on the ethics of tech platforms in the age of entropic fascism. As all of my few followers are no doubt aware, I recently decided to delete my accounts on Meta and X in the face of the increasingly unacceptable behavior of both their leaders and leadership.
