sometimes just sorting somebody’s videos by popularity can tell a story

I can just feel in my bones that the internet is approaching some sort of inflection point, where it’s all been funneled to such a small handful of websites that get worse with each update and I can’t really picture where it goes from here that isn’t some half baked millennial retvrn fantasy

maybe it’s just that I’ve lost the taste for it myself so I can’t see that it’s still thriving. I find myself sticking around cause I made connections that mean something to me with a lot of people I don’t really speak to directly very often, but actually Being Here feels like a burden

maybe I’m wrong about tiktok, it’s clearly still huge, but from my extremely subjective view it feels like I’m seeing/hearing way less people actually making videos there as opposed to just watching the endless scroll, which cuts out the social element

all of social media is increasingly starting to feel like a boomtown on the downswing. I look at twitter, blue sky, facebook, instagram, tumblr, tiktok, youtube and all I can think is “there used to be gold in them hills”

I know we laugh at the troubles of others, provided those troubles are not too serious. Out of that observation I have reached a conclusion which may be of some comfort to those accused of "having no sense of humor." These folks are charming, lovable, philanthropic people, and invariably I like them--as long as they keep out of the theaters where I am playing, which they usually do. If they get in by mistake, they leave early. The reason they don't laugh at most gags is that their first emotional reaction is to feel sorry for people instead of to laugh at them. I like, in an audience, the fellow who roars continuously at the troubles of the character I am portraying on the stage, but he probably has a mean streak in him and, if I needed ten dollars, he'd be the last person I'd call upon. I'd go first to the old lady and old gentleman back in Row S who keep wondering what there is to laugh at.
