Film 27/31: "Sweetheart (2019)"

Some frustrating decisions and distracting acting in the second half, but is still a fairly fun and tense monster survival movie on a tropical island with cat-and-mouse game energy.

I only just recently started getting into older Hong Kong horror films, and they are unbelievably good. Feels like an endless well of wonderful insanity.

My wife just sent me a covertly taken behind the scenes picture of me putting this together, this is what it's all about, hell yeah.

One of the best zombie movies easily.

And I don't care what anyone says, I adore the goofy skeleton with the clearly visible wiring and rods!

I was recently let go from my job of 10 years for reasons out of my control. I've been feeling down and aimless, but it means I can finally flex my creative muscles a bit when I never had the time or space to.

I'm filming horror vignettes while working on bigger projects, I hope people dig them!

Sounds cheap, easy, and morally sound.

Denied.

To be clear, I like goofiness, I am a fan of toku and it's inherent to the genre. I was more commenting on the juxtaposing tones in a mildly hyperbolic way.

Honestly, my main issue with the movie is the choreography feeling really phoned in and the pacing. But it's a fun enough movie.

"The Guyver" is such a weird movie. For a majority of it you get some of the most subpar, half-assed tokusatsu action with goofy ass sound effects and bad jokes, and then Screaming Mad George decides to just go all-in on an insane body horror effect like this out of nowhere.

The variety is great for sure, awesome job on all of them! Impressed at how they all feel so distinct too.

Love this one, has a really beautiful melancholic sound to it.

You could say I'm excited for the Chainsaw Man movie in a few days. (And you'd be very right)

I still need to see Halloween, but the more I sit with it the more I think '94 is my favorite. 2 is extremely strong, but I think I mainly hold it so high for Safe Haven alone. '94 has Raatma and The Subject which I think ekes it out for me.

I'm an anime, action, and horror film collector! Far too many to name just one. (Technically they're mostly blu-rays and 4ks though)

Me and some friends screened "Mark of the Vampire" a couple days ago, and there is an -amazing- bat on a string in that movie that we just absolutely lost our minds to every time it popped up.

I'm such a bad critic sometimes, because all a movie needs to do is show me a goofy skeleton, a rubber suit monster, some fog, a crypt/graveyard, and harsh neon lights and I'll be hootin' and hollerin' like I've witnessed one of the great wonders of the world.
