Not that it’s a crazy hard game or anything, because it’s not, but I think a lot of Gungrave’s reputation for being “mindless” is a combination of the game defaulting to the easiest difficulty, plus a lot of the prevalent attitude towards arcade/arcade-adjacent games at the time.

VJ is by far Kamiya’s best game. Also I’ve always been a big 3 detractor. I’d now say 1&3 are probably in the same league but for different reasons.

Yeah definitely. Survival wise it is way easier than I remember, and getting S ranks is crazy easy once you realize how much it emphasizes time.

Shocked at how easy of a time I’m having with DMC1 after not touching it for years. In my mind I remembered it being close to on par with Viewtiful Joe in terms of difficulty but it’s not even close. Not only in terms of survival, but ranking as well. It’s extremely easy to S rank once you know how.

Does Nightshade improve on Shinobi in any aspect? No. And that game is worse in a bunch of other ways now!

PS2 Shinobi is awesome, but far from perfect or fully realized. Feels like there’s a lot of potential still untapped, like relying less on lock-on/state shit, and be more heavy on positioning, giving enemies more interesting movement. It’s just that the game has no competition in the 3D space. Lol
