Maybe – actually haven’t thought about it enough because I’ve been so focused on the defensive stuff. In the aggregate United are a bottom 5 side in the league from SPs

I’m not sure Amorim will last long enough at United to prove me right that he’s at least competent tactically in open play – the culture is too toxic, the club doesn’t recruit players properly, and the set pieces are bad – but I see my role as gathering evidence and outputting what it suggests

I don’t post much anymore for many reasons, but IMO we’re hitting a level on the podcast we’ve never hit before. We disagree in many ways with most of the public United discourse and big voices in the space ab Amorim. I think if you’re interested in my work / United you should tune in

The general consensus is that this is the 7th/8th best squad, with a bottom 5 midfield, and the evidence so far this season is that they are… probably the 7th/8th best team in the league.

So for United’s board… you chose to keep Amorim last summer… why would you choose to sack him now?

Hear me out:
– United have played 3 of last year’s T4 so far
– They have 10 points from 7
– They will sit ~10th on Monday
– Their xGD is a bit skewed, but they will sit roughly 5th/6th on xGD

After they play Liverpool next week, they have a run of 13 matches with no T4 opposition (1/2)

I am now on the Josh King train. Overturned due to reasons out of his control but he just scored an Mbappe goal on Chelsea’s head. Really good against United last week too. 18 years old. The skill and composure are all there and he’s clearly physically at the level

I do keep going back and forth on whether Mainoo should play though tbh. But I guess the fact I’m going back and forth on it still means I don’t see it as a big issue with this team

A lot of (social) media seem opportunistic about turning against Amorim. While betting against Man Utd’s manager is always likely to be the right answer, most I’ve read seem like the wrong formula. I’m also finding the ignorance of the squad’s issues annoying. The midfield solution isn’t in-house

I’m audibly heated in this and Kees is very patient with me, but do think the discussion is as substantive and nuanced as we were hoping for. The easy default is thinking we’re saying Amorim is good or deserves the benefit of the doubt when we’re not. We’re saying he isn’t being given a fair shake

I think Amorim gave his list of positions to the board, and it’s the board’s job to deliver. Based on the links to Baleba, and the multiple midfield rearrangements yesterday, I think midfield was on that list and the board hasn’t delivered him a midfielder

I think Bruno is the only player in the midfield selection who would stably start for top half teams and he’s barely a midfielder

I don’t believe managers should run player recruitment at the highest level of football, and if United don’t understand that…
