PTA shut down production and ballooned the budget on this movie so he could cast Benicio del Toro, and the very first shot of him instantly proves it was worth it

Photo of NBC’s exit poll data (from my work laptop, lol) showing Mamdani splitting the straight vote equally with Cuomo, but taking the LGBTQ+ vote by more than 5:1. Even though the LGBTQ+ slice is only 14% of the population, they were a LANDSLIDE in his favor.

This needs more attention: Zohran SPLIT the straights with Cuomo. ALL of his margin was from LGBTQ+ voters. Every Dem who ever said β€œwe should abandon the transes” needs this shoved down their fucking throat with a ramrod.

i bet a lot of these players have been playing baseball since they were kids. that’s probably a big reason why they’re so good. if you learn this kind of stuff when you’re young it gives you a big head start

How would you describe that worldview?
My father told me something when I was very small to instill confidence in me: β€œNobody in the world is worth more than you, but nobody’s worth less.” It is an egalitarian view that I’ve carried around in my life. That’s why I am for free schools, free universities, free health care, and free babysitting. Because our society could afford it. In America, people think social democracy is some kind of communism. They think capitalism is freedom. It’s not. It’s only freedom to exploit people.

SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Among the many things we lost with the move to streaming and away from DVDs, one that often gets overlooked is the surreal sensation of dozing off in the middle of a movie only to be jolted awake 40 minutes later by the blast of library music playing in an endless loop over the main menu.

Nothing made slavery’s toxicity more obvious to Union troops than its effect on the fundamental unit of society, the family. For one thing, slave sales separated families. In the Upper South, where many Union soldiers were stationed in 1861, about one in three first marriages was broken by sale, and about half of all slave children were separated from at least one parent. 129 With their own eyes, soldiers saw slavery snap bonds between parents and children. The men of the Seventh Wisconsin were awakened by gunshots one November night. The following day, soldiers β€œlearned, and saw the cause of the alarm in the form of two negro womenβ€”a mother and a daughter.” The pair had fled to Union lines to avoid the proposed sale of the β€œgoodlooking” daughter into the so-called fancy trade, which soldiers viewed as a form of concubinage. Outraged by the plight and moved by the vulnerability of the mother and daughter, β€œevery private in the ranks” cursed β€œthat system which tramples on the honor of man, and makes merchandise of the virtue of women,” according to one member of the regiment. 130 When an Iowan encountered a young child about to be sold by her own father, who was also her master, he vowed, β€œBy G–d I’ll fight till hell freezes over and then I’ll cut the ice and fight on.” 131

On the one hand, this is sort of true. There's a greater reticence to buy projects that lead with diversity than there was pre-election. On the other hand, a lot more big hits this year have been woke-forward than there were last year. Hollywood chases hits. Interesting to see where this goes!
