Ages ago I wrote an essay about a short story called "Skorpion" by Christa Reinig. It dealt with exactly this, and how it can make good people do bad things because everyone expects it anyway.

I got an A+ because I truly got its essence right away. And I've been wondering when I'll turn bad.

I'm morbidly obese, ugly, look at least 10 years older (I'm 54), all as a result of chronic pain and fatigue for 20+ years as well as chronic depression and insomnia plus (mentally) abusive parents since childhood.
