The editor for my new book has taken all my parentheticals and turned them into emdashes (per the Chicago Manual of Style) and now I’m concerned everyone’s going to think I had AI write the book for me.

The WhatsApp for business features are actually good. Breaking the network effect may work for us, but the ship has sailed for normies. They’re on what they’ll be on forever, and most of them don’t pay attention to the politics behind social media like we do.

Everything here is done on WhatsApp. And worse, many trendy restaurants only accept reservations via Insta DM. I am constantly deleting Meta crap from my phone and reloading it when I need it.

Just signed with the publisher (I wrote the entire book before pitching. I’ve written books before and wanted to do it this way this time.) We kickoff the whole process on February 17.

Is that really an unpopular opinion, though? I’ve been building and marketing developer-focused products for 30+ years now and it’s always been hard, but immensely rewarding when you get it right (it’s also really obvious when you don’t or can’t!)

Yes there’s a local Craigslist equivalent and it’s pretty great. It also forces me to practice Portuguese :-) I’ve sold all manner of things on there.

But the “give away things for free” groups on Facebook can be useful at times, too.

I think we are in the post-social media era. A handful of geezers are still on Facebook, only moms and dads use Insta, and Twitter is basically for Nazis and Tesla fanboys. There are no decent social networks left, and maybe that's a pretty good thing.

So you're going to drive from Lisbon to Barcelona and back and plug into a regular outlet every 2.5 hours? If you do find a high-capacity charger off the motorway, how are you going to pay for it if you have a Portuguese tax number but not a Spanish tax number? Which app are you going to download?

I have very fond memories of doing *exactly* this the year between my 17th and 18th birthdays when we had all graduated from high school and had beautiful “nused” cars to head off to college with.

LA is not Europe. In Europe every country has a different charging network. To go from Portugal to Spain (which we do frequently enough), I need to have charging cards that work in both countries. It is complicated and requires lots of planning. The Superchargers just work. That’s the advantage.

The Supercharger is purely for road trips and there’s no network like it. BMW et al have the “Ionity” network in EU, but it’s got nowhere near the coverage of Tesla. I loathe my Tesla and would rather have the VW ID.3, but VW can’t produce them fast enough and the charger network is too fragmented.

Agree. And while there are tons of wonderful EVs in Europe (and great incentives for owning one), the charging infrastructure is so fragmented that road-trips across borders are very challenging. The Superchargers are the big difference-maker.

Ozempic isn’t in stock *anywhere* in the EU. Which is a classic example of Big Pharma fleecing the American public because politicians are way too beholden to them to enact European-style pride controls.

Even worse in Europe. I hate my Tesla, but the Supercharger network is a huge advantage in terms of ease of use.
