This glacier has retreated 3 km over the last century, date on which it still reached the De Agostini fjord 🧊🌊

He's not at all of that background. His past is strongly pro-EU. He campaigned for a second Brexit Referendum with the option to Remain. It is his chief of staff Morgan McSweeney that is the primary force behind the misguided push to try to win back Leave voters.

The Trump administration sinks to a new low – opening fire on drowning men | Jonathan Freedland These deadly US boat strikes are the latest example of a president corrupting both the law and morality, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland

Another excellent piece from @jonathanfreedland.bsky.social

β€œIf and when Donald Trump and those who serve him, and themselves, are eventually called to account, they will be confronted by that single word [corruption], in all its shades – and all its force.”

A declaration of political war The Trump-Vance National Security Strategy is blatantly racist, declares an open intent of interfering in European politics, and is extraordinarily hostile to long-time allies

This chart is about tactical voting, but looking at it from the perspective of β€˜would it be easier for labour to get voters back from Reform, or from literally anyone else’ is quite revealing

Reform UK gets record Β£9mn donation from Christopher Harborne Nigel Farage’s party attracts far more funding than both Labour and the Conservatives

Crypto-investor who lives in Thailand gives record-breaking donation to Reform UK, to help it win power in a country he doesn't live in.

Britain's political funding laws are a charred and smoking ruin. Ducking change was a catastrophic mistake by Labour.

We rely on migration for the economy and several industries, decrease that and the economy is worse. A worsening economy means worse conditions. Unhappy public looks for someone to blame. Politicians tell them it's migrants. And so we end up in a never ending loop while everything gets worse.

I don't know why some perceive registering emigration and returning as an "intrusion maybe, even an obstacle". I found the registering process in Switzerland welcoming, informative and useful on arrival, and convenient and helpful upon leaving.

Our information space is dominated by a system that demands and rewards continous and immediate emotional gratification, so you can't even begin to have a discussion about complex issues. It's a bright cancer that spreads and multiplies with every interaction.

Also, in the detailed tables and in the maps, the app lacks momentum scrolling and elastic scrolling (bounce effect), making navigation clunky and unprofessional. Plus scrolling in the detailed tables only works if your finger touches text or symbols. Again the old version got all this right.

Main problems: Wind gusts matter in storms and should be in the main table. Units should be configurable everywhere (e.g. wind in km/h). Website should provide scroll bars to allow continuous navigation in time rather than the arrow buttons which jump forward 9 hours. Old version got all this right.

The Covid inquiry’s findings are shocking but unsurprising now, so the main thing it left me thinking is that without a vaccine we wd’ve been utterly screwed. & if you worked round the clock to make a thing that saved millions of lives globally, to see that legacy trashed by anti-vaxxers…

Trump's attack can rescue the BBC The BBC should use the threat of legal action to strike a blow for press freedom

"According to every legal analysis I’ve seen, the BBC would win on this basis. They would strike a blow for press freedom everywhere and send a message that although US media giants will kiss the feet of power, Auntie won’t."
