I'm sure raising kids is hard, but the level of surveillance and control placed on kids by some parents is terrifying.

It's a shame that the economics of smartphone games requires them to have the most heinous mechanics, because the interface is so delightfully intuitive.

That said, I think there is something to how communities often don't have tools or spoons to moderate/mediate, so the choices become "ignore obvious conflict" or "banish one or all parties involved". Peace is technically maintained, but without any path to rehabilitation.
