and now we have six, with an additional 5 or so restaurants that serve alcohol. What shocked me visiting London, England the first time was how early pubs close.

Also, we still have "dry counties" that never liberalized from the time prohibition was repealed. I doubt Connecticut has dry counties. I grew up in a county seat of 7000 people. There were four pub equivalents (including one nightclub with live music) when i was a child.

We only call it a pub if it is pub themed. Most small towns in the USA have a pub equivalent (i.e., an establishment that serves beer/wine and food). However, a very small settlement might not..say if the population was under 200 people.
