How do you feel about the use of present tense in stories? It always feels awkward to me to use as a writer or to read as a reader. Short bursts of it are okay, though #writingq #WritingCommunity

This is a black and white landscape nature photo I took of Lake Champlain from the shore in Burlington Vermont. Elegant rays fan over the glimmering lake. Winter sun's bright reflection glows atop the right surface of Champlain and stretches left into a thin line of light. Brooding clouds, the prominent horizon line, and a textured expanse of dark waves all add contrasting layers to the image. It was an effervescent moment that paused time, and inspired my latest senryu: sparkling champlain i sip a string of pearls Fun fact: Perlage is a wine (champagne) term to describe the continuous stream of small bubbles, often called a string of pearls, that rise inside the drinking glass.

20.02.2026 14:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, I know! I misspoke. I meant that my first impression was that it had been cropped but when I looked closer I saw it was a white field and not a crop at all. It's one of those photos that you can look at for a long time and notice more & more things. Like the openings in the tree line. So cool!

Centered amidst tall wisps of grass, its trunk tapers toward the base and splits at the top. The delicate grey wash background denotes a dusky, serene mood. Paired beneath the artwork floats an inked haiku on the right: In spring how easily one forgets winter
Week 3 of #NaHaiWriMo, we embark on a holistic path into #haiku through the incredible #haiga #art of Cendrine Marrouat (@cendrinemedia.bsky.social):

Close-up of a small snow-covered tree stump in a winter forest. The snow is in such a shape of a person giving the stump a hug. The textured bark contrasts with the snow.

She doesnβt fear Hellβs cages.
She doesnβt fear Heavenβs.
She fears that if she stops mocking the world long enough, she might actually want to stay.
And that is the cage.
Here is a landscape nature photo I took of a snowy field in the Shenandoah Valley. The field's white triangle of hill meets a wedge of snow-covered trees. A white sky above reflects the snow below. The smoothness of the top and bottom of this image is contrasted by the inky texture of trees severing the scene in half. As an artist and writer, I see paper everywhere. Negative space makes me want to recreate moments and fill in the blank. Being drawn in by this wintery expanse inspired my latest haiku: snowy field the vastness of a blank page

This is a nature photo TrΓ© took of a curved poplar branch in the snow. Beneath a white daytime gloom, the background's bokeh features falling flakes and an evergreen forest. A few snowflakes float, suspended around the limb. The scene provokes a chilled serenity that inspired TrΓ©'s latest free verse haiku: around poplar's snowy bend another short road

She has dark hair pulled back neatly into a bun, prominent cheekbones, and a serious yet composed expression. She wears a high-necked, long-sleeved dark Victorian-style dress with a patterned white lace or floral insert at the collar, creating a contrast against the solid dark fabric.
Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte was the first #NativeAmerican woman to become a physician in the United States. A member of the Omaha tribe, she campaigned for public health & for the formal, legal allotment of land to members of her tribe.
