Likewise! I found this in the Tassajara library, and later got my own copy (same edition) used somewhere. I carried it with me on a road trip that included a visit to Whalen in Santa Fe (1988). He signed it for me.

Pioneering Earthlings spread across granite, each extending lobes until they encounter neighbors. In the center, crowded by a pair of smoother ones covered in lace-like cracks, is a rougher one, with tiny, almost-frilly nodules interspersed with raised cups which release the subtlest dust.

A scattering of tiny bits of four varying textures: most are smooth rows of lobes, but these have amongst them raised soft disks, vaguely convex but with almost imperceptible rims. Fewer still among these you feel occasional clusters of disks pressed against each other so that their rim protrude like lips. Then, to the right of the field, you find three or four lumps covered in gentle puckers.

A soft central mound of papery craters surrounded by layered skirts of gradually widening wavy tongues.

Exuberant protruberances yield a field in their midst in which spreads unbroken a much-smoother surfaces of tiny even scales.
