If you’re going to make true crime, fine. But at the very least, don’t use marginalized identities as props for fear. We deserve better.

Ian Brennan (creator), Ryan Murphy (EP), and Max Winkler (director) didn’t just make a bad show. They made a gross failure of creative and moral responsibility and should be held accountable.

The scariest thing about this series isn’t the killer. It’s how it treats real people, queer people, with blatant ignorance and disrespect, wrapped in sensationalism, built on trauma, and punching down.

It’s lazy. It’s outdated. And it’s harmful. Rather than interrogate the real horror of Gein’s actions, it casts suspicion on a marginalized community already burdened with stigma.

Instead of focusing on Gein’s real brutality, the show leans hard into tired, dangerous stereotypes by linking queerness with deviance, violence, and fear, not through facts, but through implication and innuendo.

Just finished Monster: The Ed Gein Story. It fails on every level. The worst part isn’t the crimes it recounts. It’s how it vilifies LGBTQ people under the excuse of “historical context.” 🧵
