Totally agree. I don't think the city should treat these as special. It skews things. And they only represent residents, not business that are impacted by the same discussions. Maybe the association should need >50% of households/addresses voting before it can be recognized.

Sustained, economy-wide deflation is bad, but prices going down for a subset of goods or services is only bad for supplier's revenue. Prices drops because of productivity gains are *good*.

No reason to differentiate between the two entities unless you are talking about political or legal matters. Economic ones should focus on the region as a whole.

I've been inverting my thinking lately: why should this road *not* have protected bike lanes. It would be great if traffic engineers had to justify not including ped/bike infra instead of the other way around.

But it's not "in its respective community" which is where you said schools should be located. It's on the edge of town surrounded by farms. The school has 213 students, not 4k. Students on the other side of town have to drive to the school, creating the traffic you think is bad.
03.10.2025 19:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Huh? In the image in the original post, do you think the location of that school is a good location?
03.10.2025 19:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
I am confused. I do not think you understand the point of the original post. No one is promoting making school larger. We are saying schools should be close to where their students live and not on the edge of town.

But where would we put the 5,000 seat football stadium?
03.10.2025 19:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
"center of town" means the school is in its "respective community. In the image above, is the school, surrounded on three sides by farm land, in its community? If it was in the middle of town, more kids could walk and bike, reducing traffic.

Preston should have two travel lanes on the north bound side of the boulevard. The south side should be a bus and bike lane with widen side walks. That vastly simplifies this intersection and lets you make it into two simple ones.

If the physical condition of the mall is so bad it's hurting business, then why doesn't Friends of Cville Downtown pay for this? Payne is right on this one: the $ could be spent elsewhere and the maintenance can be done in house!
17.09.2025 23:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Agree. I've never heard it cited by anyone. And many houses don't have sidewalks or the HOA is responsible. Suburban sidewalks don't need frequent maintenance either so people don't feel the impact of this.

It's sad because many places (Fort Collins, Iowa City as someone mentioned) have solved all the problems the city claims prevent the fountains from being open. Sometimes hard things are worth doing!
16.09.2025 15:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Children still go in the fountains and have lots of fun. Other places, like Fort Collins CO, have fountains in their pedestrian malls and they are a great source of joy for families and kids and dogs. A nice place to stay cool on a hot day too.
