Georgetown University didn't have lights on their football field until a few years ago for this same reason. Despite the field being surrounded by campus buildings and on the other side of the hill the university sits on from the neighborhood.

It's for a new car at the average price. But the people buying new cars are not average. Way more used cars are sold every year than new. Like most of these articles, the numbers are junk and should be ignored (owning a car is expensive compared to bike, walking, but there are tradeoffs to all)

Yeah definitely. And of course the worst examples usually happen at the low end of the market. It's not a practice without necessary criticism, but I don't think it deserves the blanket distain that it often gets.

This is why I don't think we should malign "flippers". They put up the cash for those repairs allowing someone else to spread the costs out over 30 years. (assuming they pay for good work and don't cut corners which isn't guaranteed.)

The stops aren't that dense. And the environment, even around schools, is often so hostile to walking that this is effectively impossible. Most governments only know how to provide infrastructure for cars and can't imagine anyone walking/biking.

Both. In my city we are also having trouble finding bus drivers (yes the city has raised the pay) so has had to expand the zone not served by buses. I have heard some school districts don't let kids walk from the back of the line, they have to stay in the car until they are at the front.

I get furious when I am on a bike and I have to get off to hit the button so that the left turn light will trigger. This is why people jaywalk or bikes run the light! Because the crossings are hostile to them!

Winning government contracts then doing them poorly/slowly is exactly the kind of thing the CIA would do in a different country to sabotage it. And it would be the big brain move to do from a someone trying to take down this regime.

Competition is reflected in supply and demand. more competing sellers -> more supply. more competing buyers -> more demand. I agree competition is not the primary issue in economics, but it is definitely one of the things that can determine prices.

Often the people who run major US universities have views and objectives very different from the teachers and students at those universities. This is especially true at public ones like UCLA where the boards are often political appointments.

If you have a 10k sq ft lot, which is common in most of the US, you could easily fit 3 or more 2k sq ft homes on it with yard space and driveways (depending on orientation relative to the street). Happening in my city right now.

MSN

I read this article on the subject: www.msn.com/en-us/news/u... But I think this discussion isn't constructive unless we separate small systems (like ABQ) from large ones (like NYC, London, etc.). The choice of free or not free is different for difference system sizes and types.

Why does that say 18hr by car? I get under 10.

Yep. People scream about trans kids, but are fine with a 300lb 18 year old play football against a 120lb 15 year old. Of course these people just hate trans people and don't care about fairness in sports.

Should post his picture at the front of the courthouse like convenience stores do when people try to pass bad checks.

If there is rent control (or supply control) then there is not a free market. Any problems you are identifying cannot be blamed on a free market (or "capitalism" if thats the term you wish to use).

And even if rents didn't go down, thats still not a reason to NOT allow more housing. There are other benefits of additional supply than rents doing down.

I've also been wondering what happened to all those hacker groups that would release dirt on politicians and corporations back during the Obama years.

They get treat like crap from the US Gov and from JBS. JBS in Greeley CO had one of the first big COVID outbreaks due to lax policies to prevent spread.

Metro used to have very bad service with constant delays and breakdowns. In last 10/15 years they have done huge upgrades and expanded the system with the Silver line. There is probably a great story in there about how they did it.

25.07.2025 17:12 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Thats how I see it too. As a subway, Metro is tops, but as a transportation system you can't beat NYC subway.

I see, thought it was a zone the school said parents had to be responsible for kids and therefore not walk/bike alone. Didn't realize its the zone not served by bus (because of reduced resources).

I presume that zone is about safety, but if it increases car trips this much is it really much safer?

I've seen a lot of people on this site say "don't blame democrats what do you expect them to do without a majority" then Democrats do this crap. Embarrassing.

Kevin obviously marches to the beat of his own drum. I think he is harmless or a positive force, but I know many disagree and have longer histories with him.

Totally agree that the city (and BPAC etc.) are doing great work! Sorry if I have the opposite impression. Shocked by how much attention this received outside of VA and wish the coverage was at least more accurate. But Snook (and others) don't help when they treat this as a nuisance or vandalism.
