Agreed but it does frankly make the EU and Canada look bad when even after cuts funding levels in the US are higher...

American science has, historically, been **incredibly** well funded

American innovation has been the product of a level of financial investment that is unparalleled globally.

That's what I'm I don't understand. Canada funds science to a much lesser degree.

I will say that the administrative load of setting up subawards is crazy so that would be one advantage of this system.

Not familiar enough w/ NSF, any idea of the pros/cons of this? Seems like less control for the PI of the budget.

My reading of it is that this system is not yet implemented so for those with an upcoming non-competing continuation it's effectively removing those collaborators quite suddenly
