The photons we receive from the Sun take a little over 8 minutes to reach us from the surface of the Sun. But they are created deep in the core of the Sun, and it takes them 100,000s of years to get from the core to the surface!

a star forming nebula imaged in narrow band filters. Hydrogen is green, oxygen blue, and sulfur red. The shape of the nebula resembles a wizard in profile.
Today's #astrophotography image, the Wizard Nebula from 8/14/24. It was the 2nd time I imaged and processed stars separately. I love how this nebula has a wizard's conical hat, a star eye, a pointy nose, and a glowing spell emitted from the mouth. But the 5-fingered gesturing hand is the best!

The Whirlpool Galaxy, also known as Messier 51a (M51a) or NGC 5194, is an interacting grand-design spiral galaxy with a Seyfert 2 active galactic nucleus. It lies in the constellation Canes Venatici.

A planetary nebula looking like a butterfly with its two wings deployed. The colors are a tribute to Jinx, a character in the Arcane show: blue and pink. The center, where the dying star lies, is bright with a little bit of orange.

Arcane is an amazing show and I wanted to pay tribute to it my own way! This is not an usual way to process Hubble data, but it's kind of cool if you ask me.
This is NGC-6302, a planetary nebula ~3,500 light-years from us.
And now Jinx has overtaken the JWST as well! #Arcane 🔭

The upper part is quite equivalent to what you are used to see with that observation, the lower one not so much.
Blue and pink are two incredible colors though, I am having fun playing around them!

The James Webb Space Telescope's Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) has captured a stunning image of the spiral galaxy NGC 1566. This image reveals the galaxy's intricate dust lanes and star-forming regions in unprecedented detail. The warm dust, heated by young stars, glows brightly in the mid-infrared light, providing astronomers with a unique perspective on the galaxy's structure and evolution.

A spiral galaxy with a wide, oval-shaped disc. It has a shining spot at the centre from which two curving, pale red spiral arms emerge, wrapping once each around the galaxy. They’re surrounded by a whirl of bright threads and patches of dust, with spots of star formation scattered throughout. The glow of the disc fades smoothly into the background where some patches of dust can be seen, as well as foreground stars.
