I have my students bring a running vocabulary of the words from the passage. Only the definition is in English. Nothing else.

They refer to it as they read.

To encourage them, I give pop quizzes where I ask them to define randomly chosen words while using their notes. Easy grade.

Agreed that some of the CLC stories were problematic. I just skipped those.

I loved teaching Cambridge! Used it for over 20 years.
