This instrument has become an integral part of my composition tool kit in the studio. It’s across between a Viola Da Gamba and an Arpeggione (basically a fretted cello). I’ve come to love it, but it can stir up a fair amount of snobbery in classical music circles. Haters always gonna hate I guess!
