I think the solutions people are listing here are plenty clean since KDE doesn't have a dconf eqv :l, but if you want a quick and dirty trick you can simply make another user account before you switch to trinity and simply never login to your other user account until you come back to Plasma.

Red Star OS itself was a customisation of Fedora's KDE3.5 install, iirc someone ported it over to KDE Plasma 5 but I'm not sure if that's comparable with the current version of Plasma aka 6.2
